My husband T2 and me prediabetic were at our daughters for Christmas day.We both had turkey, gammon and beef and all the veg which was carrots, parsnips, red cabbage, broccoli brussel sprouts peas and roast potatoes , No pigs in blankets for me for me though I don't like sausages. We did not start dinner until about 3pm so no one had any pudding until around 5pm husband had some trifle but me I don't really do dessert and was so full up from dinner anyway I did not have anything else to eat for the rest of the day not even a chocolate. Hope you all enjoyed what you had
@Robinredbreast Now that's just not fair RRB! Sounds like you have the worst of both T1 and T2 scenarios there. As a T2 I would have probably have been fine with the amount of carbs you had, as a one off, and I think we always assume that T1's can have what they want with no problems on special occasions. I feel for you.Had a smallish/medium dinner, no sausage or stuffing, ( cant eat certain foods), 3 low carb, homemade chocolate truffles, no alcohol until much later, that was a snow ball.A small tea, dip with raw vegetables, small packet of crisps (10 carbs), 2 quality street and one snow ball. Went to bed on 8.9, 11.30pm, and then this morning, well, I wont put down what my BS is, so frustrating and annoying, if my teenager wasn't here, I would shout a lot worse, I just want to............................. Type 1, and I can't eat anything I want and we walked back from my dad's, 40 minutes too.
Rant over now ,
Have a good Boxing day folks

Well done on those figures, but hope you start better very soon
Take care RRB
I had turkey and stuffing (more sausage than sage and onion), carrots and the first roast potatoes in months. 2 hours later I was 6.4 which is high for me. When I got down to 5.0 I had a slither of Christmas pud with cream. 2 and a half hours later I was 7.0. To watch the affect on my blood sugar was a shock, as I hadn't eaten sweet processed stuff for so long. So I went on the treadmill for just 10 minutes and my blood went down to 4.9.
There's loads of Christmas pud left. But I'm letting everyone else have it.
My diabetic Christmas dinner plans are like my financial budget plans - look great on paper but they never quite work out that way....
How did anyone else cope?
I'm absolutely not trying to encourage you to eat (or drink) anything you don't want to, but wanted to comment on your experience.
When reintroducing some carbs, your bloods will spike a bit, initially, as our bodies have become unaccustomed to eating carbs. In reality, our bodies run on a sort of memory, and if you haven't eaten carbs for a while, it won't produce the enzymes it hasn't been using, routinely. Then you may spike. If you tried the same meal again, or a few times, in fairly close succession, you might find your numbers improve, as your system might be more accustomed to the carbs. There's a posh name for this phenomenon, just I call it carb-lag, as it seems to make sense to me.
As I say, not trying to derail you (or anyone else), just trying to help you understand why your numbers may have been a bit alarming.
They will change your status from Legend to Angel. Mine is going to change to a little Devil! I've nicked 3 quality street already!
Turky 4 veg, small roast potato, sage and onion stuffing, bread sauce,Just a spoonful of Christmas pudd and a spoonful of brandy butter, wine.
Unfortunatly I got realy bad indigestion when I got to bed, swetting with pain, had 2 lots of gaviscon, lasted about an hour,I was getting realy worried.

I was 5.3 fasting, 5.3 at bedtime. So whatever I went up to, and I didn't dare test, I ended as I began. I was also 5.4 this morning. Very pleased
I had my normal Christmas dinner including 4 roast spuds (no mash or stuffing), gravy, peas and carrots, cauli, one yorkie pud, and a big fillet steak. (I don't like turkey, the others do) Strawberries and cream for dessert. I had one After Eight and one Cadbury's milk caramel. Far too much wine all day.
For supper it was cheese and pickled onions with water crackers.
All in all, I was pleased, especially as there was no afternoon walkies. The girls let the boys do the dog walk. In fact the only exercise I had was opening my pressies!
Was successful in sticking to my chosen menu .
Thin slice's from my well roasted ham joint .
2 Yorkshire puds filled with broccoli/peas /carrot batons .
Pickles and my own homemade apple sauce
(made with bit of powder sweetner)
cheese wrapped in bacon mini sized .
Gravy poured into the Yorkshire n veg .
Hubby had roasted parsnips (I don't like them)
Far prefer broccoli !
Whilst cooking made myself a 'snowball' to drink .
Dealing with a demanding dog (Freya) - hollering for her xmas lunch !
Hubby had red wine chilling out with other dog (Gracey) watching the tv .
Honest gospel !
Found myself feeling stuffed , n bloated up for the
next couple of hours .
Then needed loo (few times over) - am coeliac !
My digestive system is used to smaller snack sized meals .
I always find this is simply the best way forward for me ...
Hubby tucked into a one person sized xmas pud plus double cream .
Me - I was still sore and bloated up - so enjoyed nothing more than
a few bottles of spring water with lemon slices .
Didn't miss a pudding or any extras a jot either !
Coeliac disease really can be a right pain in the belly and rear end

You have hit nail on the head !
Yep - the **** Yorkshire puds were the culprits .
I hunted quickly pre-xmas for a gluten free
Yorkshire Puddings range - had seen one in the summer
Forgot what/which range it was 'duh'
So made do with standard ones
Thought 2 wouldn't do much damage
How wrong - I was
Learnt another valuable lesson via this ...
Even gave the dogs my cheese wrapped up in bacon too .
Things are calmer today 'phew'
Totally agree - with the comments of getting outfaced byI've found since going low carb and losing weight that I just get outfaced by any quantity of food. I had a very small Xmas dinner and even gave my one roastie away as I was full with the meat and other veg. No one had pudding as only Mr e likes it so he can heat some up at weekend, and he has a cake and mince pies to nibble as and when. I find cheese and celery better for me these days , not only from diabetes angle, but grains seem to bloat me and cause stomach pains. I think you learn to live within whatever dietary envelope fate has dealt you pretty quickly.
Certainly WONT be ever doing it again .Glad you are feeling bette annar, I can't even have a crumb. Once diagnosed you must have a very strict free from diet and must not waver from free from, You musn't do it again......... please.
Have a great Boxing day
