Hi just had my check up at the hospital. I have type 1 diabetes and have had it for 40 years.I am 56 years my average blood test is 7 over the last 6 months and I am well controlled. The consultant as me do I feel hypos and I got a bit confused I said I do and my hands shake and I get hot. I told her this and the letter i got back from her also sent to my doctor says I have hypo unawareness and should advise D.V.L.A.

I do not have this so I do know what to do. Please help if I lose my licence I lose my job

@sean brooks, I totally understand why you are worried but hopefully it is just miscommunication. There are many more experienced people on this forum, but just in terms of getting hard evidence, I would communicate in writing with your GP to say that the consultant's letter does not agree with your recollection of that consultation. If your hypo awareness is actually waning, that is a good indicator for you to be prescribed a Libre 2 to more closely monitor your actual occurrence of lows 24/7 and whether or not you do still recognise the hypo symptoms as your BG drops.

I assume you are already on a 3 year restricted medical driving license? For renewal, I think the biggest question is how many ASSISTED hypos that you have suffered from in the past 12 months. In the time being do some additional BG tests when you are out and about in the car, so to make sure that you are not driving below the recommended BG level (I think for safety 5 mol?).

@sean brooks

Welcome to the forum. Sorry this has happened to you. Was there anyone else in the room when you saw the Consultant, nurse etc that you could contact for verification of what you said?

Whether there was or not, I'd write to the Consultant with a copy to your gp explaining you do have hypo awareness, and at what blood sugar level you start to feel warnings of a hypo. Post them both recorded delivery, so they can't say they didn't receive them, and ask for your records to be amended.
