Hi guys

I had gestational diabetes 14 years ago when pregnant with my daughter. This left me with impaired glucose tolerance - diabetic doctor happy and signed me off from clinic - 12 weeks ago I had a breast reduction on nhs due to back problems. I am slim and fit - aerobic instructor for 8 years. one week ago I started feeling really tired. Diagnosed with low iron reserves I started taking iron tabs and drinking orange juice - I know that I can't drink orange juice but that didn't sort of enter my head just did it - drank an awful lot - 3 days later I was literally sleeping all day and all night, dizzy and disorientated. I went to a&e and they could find nothing wrong other than low iron and glucose of 10.5- they sent me for fasting blood test. At this point I had drunk about 4 litres of orange juice in 3 days. It came back at 12.5, when I saw my gp they said I was now type 2 diabectic - 3 days later - even though I can cut out all sugar I still feel disorientated until about 4 in the afternoon when I feel normal. Is this just the excess sugar coming out ???? The doctor has said that it will take a few days for the sugar to leave my system. I have been testing and I am between 5.7 and 6.9 in morning. I've hit 11 two hours after food for breakfast and lunch but only 9 two hours after dinner. I'm seeing diabetic nurse tomorrow - some advice before I go would be great, thanks- I wonder if surgery could have messed with my figures as well ??????

Hi Joni and welcome to the forum
Here is some advice which you can read before you visit your nurse. She may not say the same as in here but this is what we believe in and a lot of us follow with good results. Ask as many questions as you need to as there is always someone here to help.
