Hi all,

Over the past 4-5 days I've had some crazy post bolus readings, I'll try and explain

Bolus wait and eat usual meal
1 - 1.5 hours post meal check BGL and it's almost hypo and heading down like 5 - 4.1 and arrow pointing down quick (usually I would be 2-4 mml above what it was before I started to eat)
Stabilise the above with some dextrose or OJ
THEN at around 3 hrs after things are better and stable I'm getting a HUGE spike like from 7-14 in a few hours

Seeems like the insulin is most potent an hour after injecting and then fizzles out completely and some **** hits the fan, almost like the 'pizza' effect but without the pizza.

Happened last night and this morning below are the macros for these meals.

Dinner last night
59g carbs 11g fats 46g protein

Breakfast today
41g carbs 22g fats 35g protein

As you can see it;s nothing overly taxing, and I am good and stable with these marcos.

Anyone got any ideas, I've swapped the my Bolus pen just now in case it is off.

A couple of thoughts
- are these reading from a Libre and, if so, do you check with a finger prick? Libre is less accurate in high and low numbers so it is worthwhile checking.
- when you are going low, is the arrow pointing straight down or diagonally down? If it is diagonal, I would not be taking any dextrose until about 4.4. If straight down, I would correct a but earlier.
- given the Libre is behind the finger pricks, it is possible your BG levels are starting stabilise and/or you have eaten some low GI food which has not converted to BG yet.

Something like this happened to me recently, after I'd taken an antibiotic for a few days, I think my digestion slowed down, and after eating my blood sugar would be a bit low, then it would start to climb. So I stopped injecting and waiting, until normality was restored.

Have you had any medication or anything recently, that might have had that effect?

In the heat recently I've found I was much more insulin sensitive & have been seeing something similar before I adjusted my doses. However the last few days have been cooler so it may not be relevant.
For the quantities of carbohydrate you mention, I might split my bolus - perhaps prebolus 2/3 up front & the rest an hour after eating. This is partly because I often have a walk after eating. Worth experimenting a little?
