This forum has all sorts of members: some type 1, some type 2, some other types, some like to keep very close eye on their BG, others concentrate on hba1c and others like to have a healthy balance between letting diabetes control their lives.
As a result, what some of us see as a blip, others see as a spike.
Personally, a rise of 0.5 is lost in the noise of my BG roller coaster.
There does seem to be a Diabetes vocabulary which redefines words.
For example, “spike” seems to mean a rise which could be for minutes or could be for hours. And “fasting” is a period long enough for any food, drugs or insulin (apart from basal insulin) to longer be affecting your BG.
I am totally with you that this is confusing. I am an engineer so like precision with language.
I find terms like “bolus” and “basal” confusing as I had never heard of them until I had diabetes. But prefer to learn new words than have old ones redefined.
