Hello
I was on lantus for a long while until about 2 yrs ago when my DSN recommended a change to levemir. I changed over but I found after awhile I had an allergic skin reaction to the levemir wherever I injected it. I was split dosing the levemir 1 morning 1 evening.
I have now gone back to lantus and my skin reactions have cleared up but I am still split dosing and having a job to get my basal doses right.
I have looked the the profile of levemir and lantus and I`m now wondering if I should go back to a single basal dose with lantus?
I`m getting a lot of fasting hypo`s (1.9 last night at 2 am) after taking my last bolus at 6:30 pm and my evening lantus at 7 pm
I take my morning dose at 7am. I am reducing both but doses but I was told by my DSN to only make slow changes with my basal and wait 3 days to ascertain the effect.
I am trying to loose weight so I`m not wanting to snack if I can avoid doing so
Good advice from the DSN about reducing slowly and wait 3 days for changes as you need to do that with lantus, if you were on a single dose previously with lantus and managed well then why not try it again.
Lantus is supposed to last 24 hours and does so in many cases, however some find it doesn't and have to resort to a split dose, my diabetes team don't advise it either and suggest switching to levemir or Insulatard.
