Split lantus?

My doctor has recommended that I drop from 48 units of lantus to 40, splitting this into 20 units in the morning and 20 units at nightime. Has anyone had any experience of this and as I sometimes like a lie in on the weekend would it maybe be more sensible to just stick to the one dose in the evening?

Not if the single dose isn't lasting 24 hours.

I never did split-dose my lantus, but it's possible and many people do. Perhaps if you want a lie-in on a weekend you could take each dose at 10am/10pm say, failing that you could always ask to change to Tresiba, it's a newish basal insulin and lasts up to 42 hours (but is still injected once a day).

I corrected last night using the new ratio of 1 unit, woke up to a result of 3.5 with the 20 units of lantus, so I'm going to stick with it over the weekend and see how things are!
