9.8 s off the planet HBA1C is a different scale to BS meters it is 98.8 = dangerously high. I just got off insulin but I controlled my own insulin dosages and I was getting around HB1AC around 7 and that was good but not very good. I have only had one HB1C since going off insulin and that was 6.3.

My diabetes specialist moved across town and my new one put me on a no major carbs diet = no potato , no sweet potato, no wheat products, no sugars of any kind limited fruit. Take up the slack with veges. He also gave me a script for 4 metaformin tabs per day

Within a week I went down from 130 units per day to zero.

The bonus is I have lost weight and lost a raging hunger and I have enough variety of food for a life style change for life. I have found some good alternatives to spuds and cornflakes and spaghetti bread and cakes.

BTW the specialist wants me to increase carbs when my weight drops and my carb tolerance increases..

9.8% is actually around 84. Hopefully the Dapagliflozin will start work soon, there's another lady on here who has started using it recently and she's getting good results when using it with a low carb diet fingers crossed you see some results soon xx

If 9.8 HBA1C is off the planet then I must be 90% dead by now and there is not much hope for me. Why do you quote things like this it is hardly encouraging for those of us who are really struggling?

Hello Lulu
Are you getting any side effects with this drug and are you still on the insulin and victoza? My GP offered me this drug a few weeks ago as I have been really struggling now for over a year but when I spoke to my DSN she said it would make thrush worse, and I have been struggling with that alongside the high BS. My GP said it would help me lose weight and I do need that so I think I need to have another discussion with my DSN on Friday. Hope you get on ok and that it helps your sugars.

Sorry Jude,

There is no value in pretending/being nice. it is a rotten disease high multiplied by time can cripples us and sends us blind and will kill us.

Our only defense is good control.

So if something does not work do not delay find something that works for you,

I started on diet and exercise and then 1/2 tab per day and then 1 tab per day (I can''t remember what they were)
Then I went to a mixed fast and slow insulin jab once per day then to 4 jabs per day and then increased dosage to totl 130 units per day. I adjusted the dosage on sulin and I could keep my Hb1AC right on 7

My changes in demand came after a return from overseas trips where my control was all over the place because of no proper routine.

My new specialist wanted me off jabs and he changed my diet and put me on 4 diabex tads per day and my next 3 month Hb1AC was 6.3.

The balance is difficult with jabs, lows can make us pass out and we are dangerous to ourselves and others on the roads (7 is a 3 month average indicator but it can be anywhere above and below 7.) so 7 is too low to aim for with any confidence with jabs (according to my new specialist) that is why he wanted me on tabs.

My eyes are good and my kidneys are good but my nerve damage in my feet is severe.and considering my age 71 my GP thinks I have done well.

It is like a hot plate on a stove, if you put your hand on it,and it is too hot, it will burn you. Encouragement will not help, if it is too hot it burns you.

Update on taking Dapagliflozin : I have been taking for about 2 weeks now and in that time I have had one bout of thrush not too bad but a couple of days ago started to feel unwell with lower back pain and a constant pain in my left side. So a sample was sent to doctors and I have a UTI the first since having one when I was pregnant 20 years ago. Not happy that I am now taking a course of antibiotics. I have been told to stop taking Dapagliflozin until the infection clears up but I am worried about going back on them as will this happen again? What else is it doing to my kidneys? Do the good effects out weigh the bad? Not sure! If I don't go back on what next for me as I was on 100 units of levemir (not lantus as I previously said) and 72 units of novarapid, this combination made my weight increase and still wasn't enough to lower by readings. My BMI and weight is not high enough to go down the route of gastric bypass so what else is out there??? Sorry for rant I am just feeling a bit sorry for myself probably the infection.

I was on 100 units Nova Rapid + 30 units Lantus and new Specialist put me on no major carbs and now I am on 4 metaformin tabs. The diet change got me off insulin completely in 1 week.. When my weight comes down hence my carbs tolerance will increase and he wants me to increase carbs when I can.
