My BS are starting to rise, I must tighten up on my carb intake. I had laid off my statin for a couple of weeks and I didn't think it had much effect so I went back on them last night.

My bloods this morning are the highest they have been for a long time. Is this just a coincidence with my bad management? Personally, I am happy to conclude that statins do raise the morning BS.

Typically I am 8.x in the morning, this morning 10.8. I am going to be going low carb for a day or two to see if that helps.

So how do you find statins?

So how do you find statins?

After 17 years of muscle pain, brain fog and poor sleep, I'm no longer willing to take them.

They seem to no why BS levels are elevated, a quote from Medical News Today (2 years ago):

After investigating further, the research team found that statins "activated a very specific immune response, which stopped insulin from doing its job properly," says Prof. Schertzer.

Diabetes.co.uk doesn't say an awful lot:

Studies have indicated slightly higher fasting blood glucose levels in people with diabetes taking statins.
The effect may be more pronounced in people taking larger statins doses.

You might like to do further research and obtain more recent information.

Taking statins is a very personal decision, in my case I'm now in the fortunate position of knowing that my arteries aren't currently clogged in any way. I also looked at the British Heart Foundation data which seems to indicate that total cholesterol of 5.4 is good. They recorded the cholesterol levels of men having Cardio Vascular Events and there was an increase in numbers above 5.4 and surprisingly also below 5.4.

it is not easy to know what other peope should do ... but my sugestion would be a low calorie vegetarian (maybe with a little lean chicken meat no skin)diet for a month low fat as well 1000 kalories this will get your blood glucose down a lot if you also do low carb .. this is how I live in 3 month my colesterol has lowered from totally 5.9 to 4.3
why should statins raise blood glucose .... but on the other hand what do statins not affect... so happy I dont have to take them

In Denmark the Health authorities ask doctors to get diabetics down to a total cholesterol of around 4, because of the much higher risk of cardiovaskular death among diabetics.... but of cause that will never happen if one digest a lot of bacon...

ant the higher the cholesterol the healthier ? and no upper border ...?
That's not right. The graph says that the best place to be is at the bottom of the parabola. Anywhere else and the death rates get higher.

Click on the graph and it gets bigger. The worst thing to be is an Australian Aborigini if you worry about your cholesterol.

Did you ever wonder in the 17 years you took statins that they were the cause of your symptoms. I have been taking them for ten years now and have never had any of the things you mention but if I did I would be straight to my doctor I would not put up with it.. She did tell me when I started on them that if I had any muscle pain at all to stop them straight away and see her

Well, you can believe the studies/trials run and/or funded by the statin manufacturers if you want, but I choose not to. The higher your cholesterol the better!

Hi @DumfriesDik when I started taking statins my hba1c went from 48 to 54 within 3-6 months. Since coming off them because of other side effects my bs is now within normal levels and has been for approx 3 years

Well it's 23 hours and 7 minutes since I quit statins and so far the sky has not fallen in and I'm still here.
