I was put on statins about 7 years ago - my cholesterol was normal but my doctor went on about having diabetes for as long as I my cholesterol should be low blah blah blah. I had trust in my doctor at that time so I started taking them and for the first time in a long time I lost control of my diabetes management. My insulin consumption doubled and my physical activity diminished as I was feeling aches and pains or was just too tired. So after a couple of months of that I stopped taking them and I regained my strength and health and diabetes management control about 3 months after that.
I don't know why you were put on statins but if your cholesterol levels were within range, I'd question the benefits - if they were high, you might want to take a hard look at your diet and see if there's anything you can do there. Often doctors will prescribe both a statin and a blood pressure medication to protect the kidneys from any potential stress of the statin.
It's pretty scary **** in my opinion,
