I have often thought about being on statins for so long,I have been on them far longer than being diagnosed T2, and what if any effect would there be if I came off them for a while, would have any effect on my diabetes overall. I do look into the whole medication picture, to see if there is anything different of better way to deal with the condition. Would the statins have any baring on my under-active thyroid gland condition, that I also have.
If the chosen statin has done it's work by bringing down the cholesterol levels in the blood, then why carry on taking it?. How much effect does it have on the internal organs, esp, pancreas and liver?Could it be like keeping your foot on the brake and wearing the brake pad down, by constant contact, rather than using it when needed, are we over medicating on the prevention mantra?
And if there has been a lifestyle change, would the medication be needed sooner or later, to bring the cholesterol back under control?.
People become a bit 'robotic' in the taking of medication, they just keep taking them every night without questioning the need to carry on, Has the current mentioned research tried stopping the statin
while monitoring any changes in the diabetic condition, or is that the next step of the research to be under taken? Wonder what the next break through will be? ttfn
