STATINS, VIAGRA, & ED

Hi, I am new to going public.
I am 74 years of age and I was diagnosed with Diabetes 18 years ago after listening to a radio programme on Neuropathy which I was increasingly having for the previous 2 years. My doctor refused to accept any possibility of Diabetes until a blood test showed 14.3. ED became an increasing problem and I started using Viagra prescribed by my doctor. Last year after reading correspondence about “Statins” on the Forum I decided 8 months ago to stop using Statins and now I do not need Viagra and also my ability to hold a proper conversation without “memory loss” has improved.

Does the medical fraternity know of the link between STATINS & ED?
 
I stopped taking statins on my doctors advice and I have noticed a big difference and feel a lot better

Thanks pete - I thought that there would be lots of replies to this post. Statins really are a problem and I really don't understand why Doctors & DBN keep pushing them on patients. Everything I read about them is BAD.

Hi My Brother in law who does not have Diabetes was put on Statins, he developed pain in all of his joints. I told him about my experience with statins and at first he thought it was best to obey his doctor. As time went on he was signed off work and I again mentioned statins, with nothing to loose he stopped taking them and has gradually lost all the joint pains and is feeling 100% better.

ED & Viagra are not subjects men like to discuss - but when you realise the cause/reason for both it makes you a lot happier.
ED takes away your manhood and Viagra must have a long term affect on the body - but I don't know what.
 
Doctors give you Statins to reduce the risk of heart attack - this causes ED and then they give you Viagra to get around the effects of ED - the Viagra widens your blood vessels to allow more blood to pump around the body - and guess what - that could cause a heart attack.

Its a bit like taking "headache" tablets to cure a headache and one of the side effects is that it can give you headaches. READ THE LABEL.

Thankfully I have a very kind and understanding wife. I thank God for her every day. Someone called Liam posted a few months ago stating that we as diabetics should be grateful for a supportive wife/husband - I could not look after myself without my wife. Many times I have had to waken her in the night when I was heading towards a Hypo. Without hesitation she has always jumped out of bed helped me. A wonderful wife. There is a verse in the Bible which says: "He that findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtains favour of the Lord". If you want God's favour - find a wife.

It does seem that statins are every Drs favourite prescriptions (after antibiotics!). Not sure why this is either...

Hi Mr Self-Destruct (what a name). Mind if I call you M-S-D? I had my 6 monthly Diabetic check-up yesterday. On the issue os Statins I told the DN that I stopped my Statins over a year ago after reading an article written by a Reporter on the Guardian who said that he had been suffering from "memory loss" and that his memory returned after he stopped taking Statins.

My memory is now much better since I stopped taking Statins and also ED has improved. She burst out laughing - composed herself - and then typed this information into her computer. Perhaps I missed the joke. She has also booked me down for a "memory test" with my Doctor. Life gets complicated.
