still pushing statins

Yes, lets focus blindly on cholesterol and continue to ignore insulin levels.

They are still going on about dietary cholesterol and sat fat. They are the ones who are blinded imo.

Maybe they can come up with flavoured statins.... you know, cherry, chocolate etc.

Possibly both are equally counterproductive...?

Do you think that red yeast is preferable to lavostatin? They have the same active ingredient and potential side effects. Might as well take lavostatin since you'll know exactly what your dosage is.

I suppose it all depends on whether one wants to lower cholesterol and whether one believes that lowering cholesterol is beneficial.

How do you know how much monacolin K is in the red yeast you're taking? You don't think the lovastatin pills have consistent amounts of monacolin K? Do you have any documented evidence of that? Do you know how much citrinin is in the red yeast you're taking?

My personal opinion is that a 'scientist' discovered a compound and only then looked for a 'disease' to fit the compound and then the pharma company ran with it. But then I am known for my nasty, suspicious nature.

Your opinion is spot on, at least as far as one company that I know of. My wife worked for G.D. Searle for several years before they were acquired by Monsanto. I knew several of her colleagues, research chemists and industrial chemists, very well and still see most of them once a years at a reunion. I was surprised that they would develop chemicals and then look to see what it did rather than the other way round.

Not so with statins the guy who discovered them actually was looking for a compound to reduce cholesterol levels thinking erroneously I to my mind that it would be beneficial.

An interesting video made by a heart surgeon with over 1,000 bypass operations under his belt. Guess what he says about cholesterol.
Although in retirement, he had his license removed. Crazy!

Just thought it was interesting. Given the choice of believing the pharmaceutical industry, GPs under orders from the NHS or a heart surgeon with 30+ years experience, it's got to be the heart surgeon every time.

Thanks for sharing this !

Yes, reading the CNN news article on the Lancet paper, interesting that they put the photos on the side of the Med diet, and exercise, to, you know, include the 'bits' about what you eat and how much you move your muscles and oxygenate your blood (as in fitness) being related to heart health! An aside. A side bar of a couple of pics. But include all the usual about saturated fats in the article. And of course - taking statins. But nowhere but nowhere is there an actual breakdown about how much added time on the planet you get for taking them! Especially in relation to the elderly, which my understanding is, is actually in the minus rather than the plus. (Will look forward to reading the wonderful Kendrick's take on the latest paper.)

And then there is the diabetes risk. And the fact that the positive effect of taking statins on women has not been found. I have two womenfriends, one with prediabetes, who are in a high risk group due to ethnicity and close family with T2D, who have been put on statins, neither upped their game with physical activity or lowering carbs. I told one of my own doctors that I believe this is criminal (I don't beat about the bush. He's German so he can handle it.)

I continue to be gobsmacked and stunned how the message about physical activity in relation to heart and physical health generally is getting swamped in order to give pill taking precedence. How do we humans believe we can circumvent such an obvious basic a factor? With a substance that lowers LDL?

But CNN did make sure there was a picture of a couple dancing. And they were normal weight looking. And the - what food? For the Med diet. (I can just imagine trying to get my dad into olive oil...) Great message. Really clear. (I have had trouble with irony on the forum before - please note - irony alert for those two last sentences!) I'm sure it would have made a huge impression on me pre-T2D when I didn't have a clue how to deal with my dangerous belly fat and the always in the background insulin resistance. But I could take a statin, right? To lower my risk for having heart disease. (not!) Love the pink mass showing heart disease. That clears up how heart disease happens. Oh yeah - it's the saturated fats! Building up in the arteries and making plaque blocks. (I thought this had been disproved?) (must read the Kendrick again...)

As soon as I pressed enter, my brain, which would normally be in charge of me doing my due diligence before posting, reminded me that I had been rather remiss. So, in the interest of fair play or something like that, here's is another view of Dr Lundell. What struck me in the video was his experience from doing over 1,000 heart surgeries (bypasses I think) and his words, those patients did not have high cholesterol. We could have lengthy discussions about "what is high?" but can we leave this video as being of interest?

Dr. Dwight Lundell mentions in the video posted by David (post #16) that it's 4 impressive days you get.

wow - I didn't realise that you get a whole 4 days extra life from taking statins. For me the extra benefit would be that the agonising pain in my muscles and joints would make each of those days feel like a year. The 26 days I took statins for in 2012 certainly felt like that. So major benefits all round.

Actually thats how it works.

Not in this case as I said in previous post Akira Endo was actually looking for cholesterol reducing agents because he believed that it would reduce the number of fatalities from heart disease.
