Possibly both are equally counterproductive...?If you are keen on food being your medicine, why not eat a quarter teaspoon of red yeast rice as a decorative and tasty snack instead of popping its synthetic equivalent, the muscle wasting statins? Dangerous for all ages. Red yeast rice is easier to control. When your amount per day elicits the side effects of yer evil statins, you lower your dose by a 1/16 t. Both the real and the synthetic have the same side effects although the synthetic pills (all brands) are worse)
Do you think that red yeast is preferable to lavostatin? They have the same active ingredient and potential side effects. Might as well take lavostatin since you'll know exactly what your dosage is.well, that's my personal choice, but 4 those who have bought the BS, the natural food alternative is available. 1 bag of organic red yeast rice from Japan = $10 and even less euros = about two years supply
and, like I said,
a few grain mixed with sushi rice can make an interesting culinary pattern just because the red yeast rice fungus is. decorative...RED! birthday sushi contrast to the nori?
lessee, now, red yeast rice as been grown and harvested for a couple thousand years. then, in the 1950s, some pharmaceutical company, noticing its efficacy, tried to replicate it synthetically and successfully marketed it as a drug. Both work. And in my household, both have been tried. equal results except with the real stuff, you control how much and when and your benchmark for how much is your upper limit is a side effect. You only ingest the tiny amount und3er the side effect. With the synthetic stuff, you are stuck with the additives and the imagined standard dosage. small measuring spoon sets are useful, especially the 1/16 t.
It is amazing how frequently prescribed are muscle wasting - knotted muscles - wake you in the middle of the night drugs like thiazides and statins. And the older you get, the harder to grow those muscles back. And stuff like that is debilitating and prevents exercise. And when is the last time that anyone has been warned by their docs about the side effects?
How do you know how much monacolin K is in the red yeast you're taking? You don't think the lovastatin pills have consistent amounts of monacolin K? Do you have any documented evidence of that? Do you know how much citrinin is in the red yeast you're taking?lessee, now, red yeast rice as been grown and harvested for a couple thousand years. then, in the 1950s, some pharmaceutical company, noticing its efficacy, tried to replicate it synthetically and successfully marketed it as a drug. My personal opinion is that a 'scientist' discovered a compound and only then looked for a 'disease' to fit the compound and then the pharma company ran with it. But then I am known for my nasty, suspicious nature.
Not so with statins the guy who discovered them actually was looking for a compound to reduce cholesterol levels thinking erroneously I to my mind that it would be beneficial. My personal opinion is that a 'scientist' discovered a compound and only then looked for a 'disease' to fit the compound and then the pharma company ran with it. An interesting video made by a heart surgeon with over 1,000 bypass operations under his belt. Guess what he says about cholesterol.
Although in retirement, he had his license removed. Crazy!
Just thought it was interesting. Given the choice of believing the pharmaceutical industry, GPs under orders from the NHS or a heart surgeon with 30+ years experience, it's got to be the heart surgeon every time.

Dr. Dwight Lundell mentions in the video posted by David (post #16) that it's 4 impressive days you get.But nowhere but nowhere is there an actual breakdown about how much added time on the planet you get for taking them!
wow - I didn't realise that you get a whole 4 days extra life from taking statins. For me the extra benefit would be that the agonising pain in my muscles and joints would make each of those days feel like a year. The 26 days I took statins for in 2012 certainly felt like that. So major benefits all round.Dr. Dwight Lundell mentions in the video posted by David (post #16) that it's 4 impressive days you get.
Actually thats how it works. My personal opinion is that a 'scientist' discovered a compound and only then looked for a 'disease' to fit the compound and then the pharma company ran with it. But then I am known for my nasty, suspicious nature.
