fortunately due to my lifestyle, very active, always have a Healthly diet, when diagnosed 4/5 yrs ago as a 'just over the borderline' diabetic i was diet only, but the problem is you never know until a blood test, if things are going wrong, never had to test my sugar levels.
1981 i had an ileostomy operation which over the following few years i suffered many embarrassing situations until contact through complimentary health therapy i ended up with my present lifestyle. Now i have possible slight nerve damage in my big toes & the nurse wants me to go on Metiform &The thought of previous embarrassing situations i Don't know if i could cope. Apparently there is no guarantee that it will work with the stoma as the side affects are such that the appliance would need emptying more often with loss of mineral, salts etc, creating a lot more health problems.

Is there anyone with a stoma who has had similar problems &can give advice please.

Don't take Metformin if you have an ileostomy. If for any reason you have high output from your ileostomy you're at risk of 'lactic andiosis, life threatening. Also long term you risk kidney damage due to dehydration.
Just don't take it!
