Stopped metformin

Hi after my hypo and struggling to keep sugars up in the mornings my diabetic nurse advised me to stop taking them Friday. How long does it take for it to come out of your system or is within hours? Sugars been ok since wake at around 5, after lunch and breakfast was 5.5 and 6 however an hour after eating it peeked to 8 and 9.1?? Is this bad or normal???? I didn't used to test after an hr as wasn't so paranoid plus fingers get sore!! I was diagnosed in April 16 and hb1ac of 96, the October one I had back was 44 and I have lost 2 and half stone since then just from cutting out the **** food! Still ate carbs. Any advice from anyone else who has come off would be great thank you xxx
 
Dan, you might not get a reply to your post until tomorrow, Sundays are quiet on the forum. Don't worry someone, probably more than one person, will answer you eventually
 
Metformin has a half life in the body typically of around 6 hours (removed by kidneys) so in a day 94% of it is gone.
 
@dan1jess2 I stopped taking Metformin after 3 months, and looking back at my readings there was hardly any change at all in the weeks after stopping it.
 
Oh so it's definitely out of my System now then as my last one was Friday morning after breakfast, that's good news as my numbers are ok after 2 hrs although peaking a little to high after an hour? Does this matter??? Docs says don't test before 2 hours? Thanks for your advice x

Appetite suppression is one of the features of Metformin, and as such for some, it aids weight loss. Like all things, th.ey don't work exactly the same for everyone.
 
**** have to get even more willpower! Definitely a rollercoaster year for me! I quite liked not feeling hungry... xx

Sorry as I must have missed anything you posted about keeping your numbers up. What were you recording and how did you feel at the time? Do you have any spare poundage to lose, or are you already very trim?
 
Hiya on the metformin my numbers kept going below 4 in the mornings even after eating they didn't go up only by 4.2 etc the lowest was 3.2 were I felt awful like I was going to pass out my heart was pounding! At 4 i don't feel too good either cold and can't concentrate too.. now I've come off the meds my numbers don't dramatically drop they level to about 5-6? Just spike in the middle to above 8.5.. I was 12.8 in April but am now 10st 2, 5ft 5 so doc said don't need to loose anymore weight.
 

It's interesting how we each react to lower numbers. I have been well down into the 2s and felt absolutely fine, but when this low, many folks do feel "off".
 
@britishpub out of interest what was your hb1ac number when you came off metformin? Did it change much at the next test? Also do u test after 1hr or 2hr? Also have u put on weight since coming off?
