I was on metformin and statin .. stopped both with the supervision of my heart nurseHi all looking for some help please
Been on the Blood sugar diet for 3 months managed to lose 70 pounds with mainly the fasting part of it and some reasonable exercise anyway at the start my meter reading was 23.7 and I weighed 21stone 11 pounds - yesterday at wws it was 16 stone 11
anyway I was initially on 4 metformin a day at 2000mgs total and 2 Glixozade at 80mgs each total 6 per day anyway i reduced my medication to one of each a day as my levels were fairly steady at between 4 & 7 morning and night and around 8 2 hours after food , i decided last Monday to try no medication at all , and the only real change 5 days in has been my readings at between 6and 7 not so many 5's ?? my relationship with my Doc has been non existent for almost the whole 10 years i have been type 2 so maybe stupidly i never informed him about the weight loss or more importantly the change in medication ?
Has anyone on here done this and do you have any advice on it , any help is appreciated
Thanks for reply , so is the worry on stopping meds , sugar going to low rather than to high depending on carb intake ?Under the supervision of my nurse I dropped my evening Gliclazide of 40 mg a couple of days ago as I had two consecutive fasting hypos.

Hi I just find it a bit strange despite the weight loss and the fasting , that without the meds my levels have virtually stayed the same - I've been type 2 for 10 yearsThere are a lot of factors that van determine meter readings, not just carbohydrate intake. My fasting levels have been good for the last year but in the last two weeks even better as are my post breakfast readings. I only started testing more often about two months ago. I attribute the better readings to coming off Propranolol which is know to cause hyperglycaemia and perhaps eating a little bit more salads.
Agreed it's just so frustrating banging my head against a brick wallI don't think stopping meds without talking to you doctor first is ever a good idea
No WorriesSorry I don't think I was answering the question!
Are you low carbing? What's you carb intake a day?Hi I just find it a bit strange despite the weight loss and the fasting , that without the meds my levels have virtually stayed the same - I've been type 2 for 10 years
Great Stats and inspirational to me , I've been on the 8 week blood sugar diet next to no carbs listening and reading what Michael Moseley has to say and write and apart from my ailing health ( self inflicted ) it has really helped , as you say you finally getting to see a specialist is what I really need and soon as I feel I would just depress my doctor as much as he depresses me hence why I stopped going about a year ago - thanks reply much appreciatedAre you low carbing? Are you on the one using the powdered meal replacements? You might try switching to low carb high fat real food. Has your HbA1c improved?Great Stats and inspirational to me , I've been on the 8 week blood sugar diet next to no carbs listening and reading what Michael Moseley has to say and write and apart from my ailing health ( self inflicted ) it has really helped , as you say you finally getting to see a specialist is what I really need and soon as I feel I would just depress my doctor as much as he depresses me hence why I stopped going about a year ago - thanks reply much appreciated
