hi guys

i read all over the place that stress is directly linked with type 2 and blood sugar spikes etc. well the job i have stresses me to the point that most days i feel like im going to pass out. i realise that i should get another job. but the money is too good to walk out on. does anyone know if this is true or should i be looking to move on to a new job

steve

hi, there definitely seems to be a link to stress and diagnosis, i have read umpteen stories on here of people being diagnosed after a particularly stressful time in their lives, my dad died a couple of years prior to dx and i do often wonder if that could have contributed, ironically he died of diabetes, i would look into relaxation techniques rather than change jobs, stress can come in many different forms, you could for example leave your job and find a job with different stresses, so if you like what your doing, maybe try to not let it get to you rather than changing it, just my opinion

good idea Andy suppose your are right i could change one issue for another. i do have plans to leave at some point to go it alone. my problem is the staff where i work have very simple jobs but seem to **** it up so well lol. i should prob be more like them and just think sod it and sit back and do f all. relaxing i suck at. i lie awake all night stressing

i tested this morning and i was 6.0mmol i had a slice of toast wholgrain toast. just tested i was 7.4mmol that has to be stress and not the food

I had a very stressful job which resulted in me having 2 strokes and bring diagnosed with diabetes plus other things . Please be careful cause at the end of the day the money's no good to you when you are dead !!

connie104 i know what you are saying. i think that once i am in a better finacial position im outta here lol. i laugh cus if i didnt i would deffinetly cry x

i would advise anyone to go it alone, although "stressful" lol its better to be working for yourself, then when you put the hard work in, your doing it for yourself and not to line the pockets of someone else, i couldn't imagine working for anyone else now, whatever you do for a living go for it!, as Beachbag and i would say "just do it" i lie in bed worrying about everything, running through scenarios in my head, i download audiobooks onto my iPhone, pop in the headphones and listen to a book, its the only thing that takes my mind off of things, otherwise i wouldn't sleep at all

only trouble is, nothing more stressful than being skint i speak from experience lol

I know it's no fun being skint but I never thought it would happen to me and I think I would rather be skint than have 2 years of recovery trying to get all my faculties back to normal.

oh i totally agree, no point being the richest man (or woman) in the graveyard, but after 11 years of running my own business and all the stresses that go with that, nothing compares to the stress of not having enough money to pay the mortgage and feed the kids

i just stormed out and went for a walk for 30 mins. re tested and down to 6.1mmol seems to have worked. i want to be a post man where i can walk all day i need to get out of this ****** office job. office politics and sitting all day is not good for type 2

i dont have kids so i can see your point of view. i would be more reluctant to walk out of a job if i was you

new year new start ... maybe time for a change at the end of the day ur health must always prevail and being a postie good stable job stress free i would hope. i work in office enviroment and its awful stressful place with backstabbing and biching . not worth the stress levels good luck to you i hope you forfill ur dreams this year xx

Turvell.. I KNOW for a fact that stress is linked to Type 2.

I too have an office job with the usual office politics, and my blood sugar is all over the place during the day. If it's a bad day I can get to the teens quite easily. Like you, I can't give it up due to the financial implications... but I do dream of it, a lot!!

Recently I've been put on to Beta Blockers for blood pressure, and the by-product of those is that I am far more chilled and much less stressed. I've noticed that my blood sugar is a bit more stable.

I've also noticed that quite a few people have mentioned the deaths of loved ones immediately before diagnosis. I was the same. My grandmother (for whom I was a carer) died in quite horrible circumstances just two weeks before I was diagnosed.

Stress plays a massive role in Type 2 Diabetes.
