Hi all - I have 3c diabetes and have been put on Lantus as I was constantly between 6 - 13 and higher through the night (Hb was 97), so the nurse is trying to get the levels down. I don't take insulin with food as my body seems to deal with that (except cereal the levels rocket with cereals). My problem is though ever since starting the lantus my levels seem less stable and go slightly higher after eating (6 - 16). At first I thought it was a coincidence but I had a week off the insulin and the levels seemed more stable and went back down to between 6 - 13. All I get told is to keep increasing my insulin until it's at the right levels but the more I increase the more I'm noticing it increasing. I just wondered if anyone else has had problems with lantus raising sugars rather than lowering.
Your post is very interesting. It doesn't make sense that insulin would increase your blood sugar. If I were you, I would keep a diary recording what I ate, when I ate, how much insulin I took, when I took insulin as well as stress, exercise and illness, in an effort to understand what is causing the higher blood sugar. I suspect it is something you ate when your blood sugar went up to 16.

i was on Lantus a number of years ago , i felt ill in the early days of Lantus , then i found it difficult to control sugar levels . Finally my bodyweight started to increase . So i increased my exercise regime , ate very carefully and healthily and still couldnt control my bodyweight . i kept a strict diary for two months , issued my findings to the diabetes specialists . They then took me off Lantus and put me on Levemir . What a god send , im now back in control
