After posting about hubby being ill a few weeks ago, he got worse and was rushed into hospital.
I will add here, if you think you are having a bad reaction to a new drug, please contact your GP straight away. Hubby only took 2 days of the strong antibiotic Macrobid and it's really messed him up.
He is home now but catheterised and needs to go back to the specialists and have an operation in a few weeks. He looks awful and it has worried me sick. His BG is all over the place and it's been really tricky with his insulin. I think that has stabilised a bit over the last 2 days though.
I've really noticed how stress has affected my BG levels and I'm finding I want to comfort eat.. I haven't done this for years and I'm not even hungry! Hubby isn't able to eat much at the moment .. am I mentally trying to compensate ?
Sorry for rambling on but I needed to get this off my chest !

No need to apologise. Was it prescribed for a UTI, if so, I'm glad you mentioned it. I've had a few UTIs and I seem to respond to another antibiotic very well. I'll keep my ears and eyes open if they ever try that one. I could react totally differently, and I think my GP would probably stick to what they know works, I hope.
I hope the situation straightens out very quickly.
Just been put on that one myself. So far its been OK. Been a week now. Good Fortune to you and your OH,Poor hubby has been sick all day. Food stays down for all of 30 seconds ! BG all over the place. I called the GP and they actually visited.
She said he has an infection and have given him more antibiotics.. told her how worried I was after what happened with the last lot.
Has anyone had any problems with Trimethoprim ? She said it was safe and commonly used.
Thank you. so far a cup of tea and tiny amount of porridge has stayed down.. fingers crossed.Just been put on that one myself. So far its been OK. Been a week now. Good Fortune to you and your OH,
Your poor husband! I can relate entirely to the problems with Macrobid. I often get it prescribed for UTIs in the 50mg version. My doc gave me the 100s, but with a warning to stop if there were any problems. I got wind of side effects and stopped taking them immediately. Thank goodness! The Trimethropin should be fine, but it takes a few days for the effects of the Macrobid to work their way out of the system. I find having a pot of yakult or something similar a day helps restore the balance of the gut.
Please try not to fret, my husband has been unwell recently after a nasty fall while trying to catch a train, very stressful. He is grumpy and worried, I am grumpy and worried and it is playing havoc with the sugars. Looking after a sick loved one is so hard! Try and get some time for yourself, watch a favourite TV programme, read a book or magazine (I am addicted to rubbishy reality mags in times of stress).
Don't beat yourself up too much, life throws these horrible stressful things at us. Once hubby is sorted out, you will get back on an even keel.
Thinking of you both.
