Heeey,

I'm a little miffed as to why i keep waking up with BG's of anywhere from 10-18 over the last week.

I got to bed around 6-8 most of the time, but keep waking up really high.

I did a few 2am/3am/4am tests and they were all still around 6-8, sometimes in the 5's but that doesnt worry me.

on a week day i work 8am-4pm so i'm up pretty early around 6-6.30am. i usually dont test my BG til i have breakfast, around 7-7.30am. Always high. So the two mornings in a row i've tested immediatly upon waking, and i'm around 8-9.. tested again before breakfast to have insulin and i'm anywhere from 12-18, is this normal to have such a rise in about an hour?

My other results in the day are pretty good nowadays, i like to be between 5-7 which i hit most often, i occasionally have the carb counting error and can be a little above or maybe dip low but im happy with that at the moment.

i use lantus and novorapid at the min, i'm due to get a pump on 21st feb, so i know i can set higher rates for the morning if this is a bad case of the 'dawn phenomenon' i split lantus at the minute one in morning and one in the night, but i don't want to increase my night time lantus anymore than i'm on now as it took a while of going between 12-16 units and waking up with bad hypo's at night

It seems to take me til about 10-11am to get my BG's normal again so i'm annoyed its mucking up alot of my days results

advice please?

ebony,

Looks like your liver dumping glucose to prepare you for the day ahead, the best way to overcome this is by eating your breakfast upon waking, I try and eat my food within 20 mins of waking and this is normally enough to prevent a liver dump accruing.
