Sudden return of severe stomach cramps and bloating

Hi All
Just wondering if anyone else had experienced the return of metformin side effects after taking the drug for several months. I started with metformin in March and suffered all the usual side effects which calmed down after a month or so. Ive been experiencing them all again however, for the last week or so. Any suggestions as to why this has happened and/or suggestions for how to cope with it are welcome. I'm on 2x 500mg 2x daily and i take them with food. Thank you

I have had the same problem that you describe and like you, I am unsure why this is.
 
Did your pharmacist change the brand of Metformin with your last prescription?
The pharmacists sometimes shop around to get a better deal and buy a less expensive brand, in order to save money.

Sometimes the ingredients/proportions are slightly different in different brands, and that can kick off a reaction.

Alternatively, something else may have upset your stomach slightly, which has made it more sensitive to the metformin.
OR, if you missed a dose or two, your tolerance of the drug may need to build up again.
