sugar drop cause other problems?

I'm currently sitting here quietly waiting for things to settle.

I ate about 2 hours ago and took my usual bolus injection with my meal. But about 20 mins ago I started feeling weird with pins and needles in my face and dizziness. I got up and checked my BP which was 197/116 and heart rate 121. I checked my body temp and slightly up from my normal. So I went and checked my sugar and it was 7.7 so tried I different meter and got 6.7, then a couple of minutes later 6.4.

So at this rate I'm not sure if it's the insulin and sugar dropping that has caused this weird reaction. But then yesterday I was taken by ambulance to ER because I had a spasm attack. They didn't really treat me too well in ER as they had no beds and were too busy. They even recorded the wrong reason why I was there. So I left hospital, came home and took mersyndol forte as they told me to do. Today I went and got some meds and some groceries... came home and have been in pain ever since with what I think is bowel spasms again.

I realise i'm a tricky case.... but just checking if anyone else has had any weird reactions on insulin?

Hello

Sorry to hear about your recent spasm attacks. I feel unwell just reading your signature!

What were your BG readings before your meal and what did you eat? I can feel a bit "weird" if I've eaten carbs that cause my BG to spike quickly and subsequently fall rapidly.

From what you've written though - I'd be most concerned about your blood pressure. I'm sure you're more than aware but that is a dangerously high reading by any standards. Do you have any idea why it's so high and is that a normal reading for you?

Get well soon,
Grant

ps. just went and checked again after I had some juice 15 mins ago and still dropping... now 5.7 so just went and some more juice. I think it must be my sugar dropping too quick.

I had 30g basmati rice for carbs tonight with some lamb mince. I was already high before dinner at 10.5. I normally bolus either 16 or 18 units. I did 18 units tonight because of the high I had before dinner. I'm usually ok with that, but doesn't seem so tonight. I think it must have to do with whatever else is wrong with me.

In regard to my BP and heart rate it appears spasms I get trigger that.... especially the big ones. I was just told last week I have a dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system which is responsible for controlling BP, heart rate, body temp, all your internal organs. I also got told that is the same disease process as fibromyalgia and it's highly likely I have that. I don't know... I guess he may be right. But basically my digestive tract motility is severe.

Ps... I don't low carb anymore. But usually have between 20-30g most meals.

That's not a large amount of carbs that I'd associate with a BG spike and fall to make you feel odd.

Hope you feel better soon,
Grant

Oops I had 125g cooked so that is more like 35g of carb.... I was close. lol. But still doesn't usually do this to me. I have the same amount of rice when I eat it usually.

Hi @Mep , given your raised bp, pulse and temperature I think you should ring your Dr's surgery and ask for advice, if anything just for some reassurance after yesterdays episode. Best wishes.

I did call my gastroenterologist office today and spoke to his secretary. She wrote down info to pass on a message to him but said there was no guarantee he will see it today. He obviously didn't as I never heard back. I'll keep an eye on things though. I took a higher dose of nifedipine (calcium channel blocker drug) tonight as I was advised to do last week when my BP was too high. It's also supposed to help stop my spasms. I'm not 100% convinced it does that totally as yet. But yes, I definitely need a review of how to treat this as what I was told to do last week didn't really work too well. Well it eventually did I suppose, but not without wasting hours of my time with me unwell and not able to work... plus the ambulance ride.
