should i have gone to hospital there and then when it was 33.3? just incase it happens again.??????

Hi bretty I hope that someone with Type 1 will be along soon with advice but here is mine as a Type 2 and NOT an HCP.

First I'd say if in doubt always seek medical advice. It is better to be safe than sorry and there is no shame is asking for help

Are you able to check for ketones? As a Type 1 I'd say it is important that you are able to do so. High BG and high ketones are a significant risk of DKA and require urgent intervention. Keep testing and stay well hydrated.

How confident are you in your insulin? Is it in date? Any chance it has been frozen or otherwise lost its potency? Do have a fresh supply you can try instead?

Yes physical and/or emotional stress can raise BGs. You mention stress but I also wonder if there is any chance you are coming down with an infection?

I also find high BGs physically exhausting... it is hard on the body so please take good care of yourself and I hope you get this resolved soon.

thanks for that advice, i have change my insulin as like u said it might be frozen or out of date, i do feel extremyl tired and drianed. and the tops of my legs ache so much and even more when i walk. i cant check my ketones as i have run out of test strips, but i did just check my 14 day average on my testing kit and my 14 day average is 14.9 and thats not good at all. dka ive spoke to the doctor about that before would you be able to tell me what it stands for agian ?

thanks for that link, these are the sypmtons it suggested

•loss of appetite
•nausea
•vomiting
•the need to urinate frequently (polyuria)
•high temperature
•stomach pain
•a fruity smell on your breath, which may smell like pear drops or nail varnish

but out of all of them all i can relate to is loss of appitite, needed the loo often but i have been drinkin alot. and instead of a temperature im pretty cold.

i jus feel extremly drianed. is dka something that if you had it its that bad you would no you have it or can it be one of those things that you could have for a while and not no??

sorry to be a paiin

I can't say what is going on with you bretty... for all I know it could be a mild case of DKA, or it could be an infection. I don't know because I am not there and I am not a Doctor. But I am concerned enough by what you describe to urge you to seek professional medical advice

bretty,

You really need to seek urgent medical attention with these levels and I suggest you go along to your local A &E asap and explain the situation to them, don't drive yourself but try and get a lift or phone for a taxi as you are unfit to drive.

Good luck and hope the medical team get these bg levels down!

Nigel

p.s make sure you come away with a supply of ketone sticks so you can test your urine when you are allowed home.

thanks for all the advice i think i will go down to a n e as my sugar levels at this moment in time are 18 and i just feel so drianed and tired and short of breath, will be getting a lift and a supply of ketones.

Thats great bretty let us know how you get on. If your ever in doubt and have such high readings a quick call to NHS 24 can be done and a hospital visit will be advised or if you feel really ill or dont have access to a phone then a A&E trip is a good call.

just got back from my gp , i have no ketones which is good, the only thing the doc picked up on was my heart rate was slightly hi 112 bpm. slightly dehidrated and short of breath. i do still feel really drained and tired so not realy sure or nun the wiser.
