hi again, for breakfast i had bran flakes with raisins and semi skimmed milk, lunch was chicken breast with salad,i had a banana in the afternoon andHi,
It sounds like you need to reduce your carbs a bit more. If your BS is rising to 12.5 after eating, there is most likely something in that meal that needs attention. Perhaps you would like to tell us everything you ate and drank yesterday? Maybe we can help you decide what is causing it.
thanks for your advice its really appreciated. What is is difficult for me also is that im approx 17.5 stone, not really from eating to badly but from alcohol,We are all different in what we can or can't cope with. The only way you can judge what you personally can eat is by testing before and after each meal, if you spike a lot at 2 hours there is something wrong with the meal.
For me personally, I would need to cut out the Bran Flakes completely. All cereals are heavy in carbs and sugar. Dried fruits such as raisins can also be quite bad for diabetics. I would also need to cut out the banana - very heavy in carbs, full of quick release sugar. Bananas are about the worst fruit for diabetics. In the main meal, potatoes can be very bad for some people, but personally I can manage 2 smallish ones boiled, roasted or fried, but none mashed or baked.
Perhaps you could try a different breakfast. Full fat Greek yogurt and add a few berries, or eggs in any form, maybe with bacon, toms, mushrooms.
For a snack you could have some cheese, or a few nuts, or a few berries with yogurt or cream.
For evening meal, try reducing the portion of the potatoes to 2, then test that meal out (test before and at 2 hours after) If there is stil a significant rise, you need to think again.
thanks again, its frustrating because i think im doing well and so sugar levels get me downit takes 3 weeks for metformin to work and 3 months for full effect, if slow release you can take 3 at night, but normal is split with breakfast and tea
this is what helped me

Hi its between 7.5 - 9fat and fiber will make you feel full, when you cut carb, you body goes nuts for the first week. that food craving link helped me with that
your sugar levels will come down in time, the before breakfast will be the slowest...what is your reading before tea
thanx for your support,it really helpsAdy brace, you are doing well, you are making changes and that's what matters. I does take time and perseverance and there will always be days when things don't go well even then
thank you its really tough at the momentI think you are still eating too much carb by the sound of it, your before tea should be lower than before breakfast. and as @Bluetit1802 said, your 12 after some meals is too high
perhaps you have some hidden carbs, if you enter what you eat into http://www.myfitnesspal.com/ it will tell you how many carbs protein and fat you eat
what I did was cut all grain, grain product,[beer, pasta, bread etc] potato and fruit/sugary stuff, to get my blood glucose readings down and then put some back when I understood more
I ate lots of leafy veg with butter and olive oil, normal meat
i take metformin 500mg three time daily, which i have been taking approx 3 weeks, your advice really helps@jack412 is right to say extra fat will stop you from being hungry, but you don't need to go overboard with it. If you cut your carbs you need to increase either fat or protein or both. If you cut your carbs properly you will also lose weight. The more weight you lose, the better your insulin will work. The more carbs you cut, the less insulin you will need. It's a win-win situation. Give it a try for a few days and see what happens.
It's also early days, don't put too much pressure on yourself.thank you its really tough at the moment
Just from everyones advice this week, just done blood and it was 6.5 two hours after lunch<chuffed! It's also early days, don't put too much pressure on yourself.
