Thanks Jack that's great info. I know I must try another way as this habit will eventually cause me irreversible harm.Hi, it is very brave of you to tell us...have you told your Dr this too? you may need to have some one on one counselling for this.

Hi Noblehead trust me I've tried every low carb and dieting supplements known to man. I also tried the so called best supplement Active x8 liquid drops utterly useless. Hate that I was 9 st recently but because of insulin retaining fat my weight has soared!Hi and welcome to the forum.
You are right that you are going to harm yourself carrying on like this and you need to stop, you can lose weight just be reducing the calories in your diet, have a read of the information that @daisy1 provides to new members of the forum and if you have any questions just come back and ask. Also it would be in your best interests to discuss your situation with your diabetes team.

I'm going on a protein only diet I've decided. Someone told me that the weight drops off really really quickly. Have you heard the same do you think there's any scientific evidence to back this claim up?it won't take much to get a couple of stone off you...
but 9.5st is just a dream to me...11.5 st / 75kg is my target weight, I was 115kg 18st
most here would say the first thing is to get your basal right, it's easier to lose weight when your system is in balance.

some T1's need to bolus for about half of their protein on low carb diet. but it depends how low carb you go. @robert72 @Heathenlass @donnellysdogs are T1's on LCHF and can be a big help to you..even when your weight is right, a lot use LCHF to keep their BG stable.
Thanks Adam all makes good sense and you are so right not buying it in first place could be the solution. Thing is with young children I put it down to buying "them" treats!Hi Romeo,
Try and stay cool. Sometime the changes for healthy eating seem like a big challenge, but sometimes they slip into perspective.
Firstly, it sounds as if you don't need to worry too much about the weight.
Secondly, if you go all day without food, you run the risk of going hypo - even if you aren't hypo you will be starving and may well eat too much.
My type 2 routine may not be appropriate for type 1, but the weight has fallen off me with low carbs and plenty of salad. Nuts and babybel cheeses make good snacks.
I find that the best way of avoiding naughty snacks is to not buy them.
best wishes
adam
Thanks Chris maybe I am being hard on myself but the dramatic weight increase was not part of the deal when I was diagnosed. Btw I got Type 1 via pancreatic problems.Romeo, you say you are 5ft 7ins tall and 11st 7lbs, well that gives you a bmi of just over 25 which is only just overweight. I can understand you being concerned that you have put on weight but you need to get it into perspective. Kevinfitzgerald just gave you some very good advice and, believe me, what you are doing is dangerous and certainly not the way forward. I hope that you can work this out.
Thanks Tim for the advice on the protein diet. You hear so many things about what diets diabetics should follow it ends up confusing. My theory was no carbs = no fat or so I thought. If you have had persistent high blood glucose levels, a high protein diet may not be that good for your kidneys. In addition, once you move to high protein, you encounter increased levels of gluconeogenesis, which is where your body converts protein to glucose (and can do at a rate of 58g of glucose per 100g of protein if you are not using the protein another way).
It may be best to cut back to a normal, non-hi sugar diet for a bit, work out what you insulin ratios should be, and then investigate diet options. Eating loads of carbs and then injecting loads of insulin is more likely to lead to fat gain than anything else!
Thanks Kev you made me laugh with the Juliet bitWelcome Romeo,
I'm 47 years old, 5 ft 7 inches and 10 stone. Have been Type 1 since 1981.
I lost a stone in weight in a year by just cutting down on snacks, drinking less coffee and tea with milk and cutting down on puddings!
I still had a fry up on a Sunday and a couple of takeaways a month.
You know what your doing isn't good as you've said it yourself. There is no quick fix to losing weight, we need to do it over time and we need to eat 3 meals a day.
What's the point of being your ideal weight if in doing so you damage your eyes, kidneys, heart and nerves. Your also putting yourself at risk of hyper and hypoglycaemia.
Sounds like a loss of routine as you stated that you were well controlled for a year and a half (if my maths is correct) with good blood sugars. I guess you had a routine of sorts then in order to achieve this.
I would suggest that you get back into routine as you were doing when you were controlled and cut out small things that will make a difference over time.
Talk to your diabetes team Romeo and get back on track!
All the best.
Juliet....... Sorry I mean Kev
Thanks Kev you made me laugh with the Juliet bitYour advice is excellent and I will take heed to your advice. I'm not stupid and know the dangers but it's like I think I'm invincible and will not get the diabetes related illnesses.
I need a severe rethink of my current lifestyle mate.
Thanks you
Romeo
