Swings and roundabouts

Yearly blood test results.

HbA1c up from 41 to 42 - not too bad I suppose.
Weight now 7st 12lbs/50kg (was 13st 1lb when diagnosed)

Cholesterol:-
Serum triglyceride levels 1.1 mmol/L
Serum HDL cholesterol level 2 mmol/L
Serum LDL cholesterol level 3.3 mmol/L
Serum non high density lipoprotein cholesterol level 3.8 mmol/L
Serum cholesterol/HDL ratio 2.9 mmol/mmol


There are two results that are 'Below low reference limit':-
Total white blood count 3.3 10^9/L [4 - 11]
Neutrophil count 1.3 10^9/L [2 - 7.5]
I was suffering from a viral infection caught from my 21 month old grandson.
Anybody got any ideas what this means?

Appointment with DN on 9th August.
 
The HbA1c number are the same, as HbA1c is often "wrong" by 10%.

Ask you GP about your blood count, but it may just be the viral infection, so may be worth a retest in a few months.
 
Why swings and roundabouts? Those are all excellent results. Your cholesterol is ideal and your HbA1c shows you are stable.

The white blood cell/neutrophils are low because of the viral infection. These are part of the immune system and used to counteract and kill off infections, so they will be a bit depleted. That is normal in any infection. Once their work is done many more will grow. These cells are used by medics as markers for infection. Low and you have an infection. Normal, and you haven't.

Thank you, I was a bit anxious about those blood figures. My thyroid figures on my blood test are not what another GP wants to see, one GP is on board with my self medicating, so I have a telephone appointment on 9th August but with a doctor I've never spoken to before.
 

No need to be anxious about those white cells as long as the virus lasts - is this being treated in some way? All you can do is whatever you can to be rid of it, and see if you can boost your immune system but you would have to read up about that. Make sure you have another full blood count test once you have recovered properly. I can't see your doctor refusing this under the circumstances.

I thought that WCC increases with an infection?
