Switching Gliclazide to insulin

Hi all, just wondering what everyone else did when they switched from oral meds ro insulin. I'm type 2, diagnosed 6 years, had a brilliant initial response to Gliclazide 40mg which lasted 3 years. Then had a couple of not so good years A1C around 57-62. Then this last year has been poor and I've just been put on Abasaglar 10 units a day. GP said to me to stop the Gliclazide when I feel ready, 2-6 weeks or thereabouts. I've done my 2nd dose of insulin today, have had some really good results, apart from small spikes after both meals today, my scores have been around 5. I'm a bit worried about carrying on with Glic (even though I think it's probably not working any more) I'm a bit chicken to just stop it in case things go wrong again. So my questions are:

1. When did you stop your Glic
2. How long does Abasaglar take to really settle down
3. Is 10 units a high dose or should I be looking to increase it
4. Gp wants me to have an A1C of 54 which seems too high to me. Is it?

It can be daunting starting or changing to a new meditation, unfortunately the questions you’ve asked we can’t really help with as none of us are Health Care Professionals and in any event it’s against forum rules to give medical advice.

Did your GP not tell you if and when you needed to stop the Gliclizide? The best advice we can give is to speak to your GP about your concerns and questions, he is best placed to advise you

Nah he was pretty vague, no real direction. No worries, sure I can work it out for myself! Just thought someone else might have experienced the same or similar thing. Cheers.
