So maybe I shoudl badger my GP to put me on metformin, when I've been trying to get my stats down so I could keep off all drugs as long as possible? :?
If you start taking Metformin or any diabetic drugs, does it mean you get free prescriptions?
The only reason I ask, is that was diagnosed with a thyroid disorder before I became diabetic, so I was already getting free scripts for having a dodgy thyroid.
I looked up the Kaiser Permanente Centre for Health Research and they claim that the study was funded by Novo Nordisk Inc, a company that "does not make or sell metformin and has no financial interest in or connection to Kaiser Permanente".
But the full report was $30, so I haven't downloaded it. And the extract published doesn't leave me any clearer on whether or not it would benefit me at present. :?
I started on 2 x 500 Metformin with a HBA1C of 10.3.
I am now OFF medication and my latest HBA1C is 5.1
Does this report indicate that I should nevertheless go back onto Metformin????
We can all make assumptions as to this article.
I see it as Metformin will give you a kick start early on to help your control.
I cannot see the use of Metformin once you control is established and ongoing other than it is supposed to offer protection on cardiovascular issues. Your risk for this has to be lessened if your blood sugars are under control though doesn't it?
A great pity that we haven't got the full report.
