Hi fellow sufferers, I am taking the family abroad soon and wanted to know if I need a letter from the doctor to permit me to take my medication and testing kit. We are going by ferry to the continent so no airports, but I dont want to get there and they say sorry sir you need permission to carry these needles etc. Anyone know the rules?

Though it might not be 100% necessary to travel abroad, it's always best to get a note from your doctor just in case any questions are asked.

As Giverny says it's best to carry a letter from your gp or consultant to say that your diabetic and need to carry insulin supplies such as needles.

Just remember also to take a copy of your repeat prescription with you in case you need urgent supplies whilst over there, this way you can produce it to a Dr or pharmacy in the event your insulin supplies get lost, stolen or your insulin spoils. It's also a good idea to split supplies up between yourself and a travelling partner, should one bag go astray then you still have enough to see you through until you get another prescription.

Enjoy the holiday
