I haven't but my sons have! First find a place that is clean, uses inks and needles only for you,has a health certificate.Ask about, see who others have used and how they got on in your area. They shouldn't mind you asking to see that the needles are opened in front of you and that the inks are sealed before they are used on you. There is always a risk of Hepatitis etc with tattoos so don't be afraid to ask!If they don't like it,go somewhere else!it's your health at stake.

Knowledge is the key to control

Hi! I'm type 1, have a average control of my diabetes and have had 4 tattoos done!

First of all, ensure your tattooist is clean and authentic!

Check your BG before & after a tattoo and ensure you have supplies incase!

Inform your tattooist that you have diabetes! You will have to disclose your details (just as everyone else). If not, get the heck outta there!

Take a bottle of water with you, nothing to do with your diabetes, but you will get thirsty!

Ensure that you follow the maintenance instructions - if not infection will occur.

Bear in mind if your control is poor - you may have problems with your tattoo healing (as with any wound)

Hope this helps!

Hi, i have had two tattoos and have been okay, just make sure you go to the right place, you get what you pay for so choose carefully.

...falling is not the problem, it's when you land...

I'm also 29, I'm no longer a type 1 diabetic, as I had a pancreas transplant on the 02/01/08!!

I did have type 1 diabetes for 20 years, I was diagnosed when I was nine, I was very uncontrolled as I used to withold my insulin to lose weight (often known unofficially as Diabulimia) I had my tattoo at 17, and had no problems what so ever with it. Although, these days I would advise a little more caution than I used back then. Make sure your glucose levels are under control, the tattooist you choose is reputable and make sure you clean and take care of it as advised.

Good Luck!!

I got a lovely tattoo on my ankle on my 30th birthday. it was totally pain free and still looks lovely 10 years on

I have a phoenix on my bum.
I had it done when I turned fifty & was made redundant.
I felt better.

Now I have lost weight, I'm told it looks even better!
