Hey up guys. Just interested to wonder if any type 2 diabetics checked out that gene variant ? Apparently it’s the highest gene precursor for T2D. The risk gene is TT and I have both. I’m looking for a good diet in preventing T2D but I have a double whammy in the fact i’m APOE E4/4 which means the traditional western diet is very bad for me especially fats even including healthy ones(it’s something to do with high LDL) and also CBS mutation which means my Sulfur and Ammonia are excessively high that means I have to avoids greens and supplements like NAC. My Mother is a type 1, interestingly though her parents never had Type 1 and neither does her brother or 2 sisters. So what caused her autoimmune disease?
 
T1 can be caused by so many things. Most people never find out what caused it in their case. I'm not aware of any genetic links for T1s, although several in my extended family have it or T2.

Could I suggest that you keep it simple and just concentrate on, "Eat Real Food". Avoid all the packaged, processed, sugary, factory manufactured stuff and buy fresh ingredients and prepare them at home. Keep all grains to a minimum and avoid fruits that have been developed to become little sugar bombs, rather than as nature intended.
As for cholesterol and LDL, forget all about them. Eggs, butter etc are good for you.

How did you find out all this information about yourself?
 
In that case, 23andme know more than the boffins in the medical field (geneticists by profession as opposed to staticians who depend on self reported data and who cannot replicate or confirm said data).
 
Have you googled reviews about this product? My daughter wanted it, the reviews aren’t great, lots of people say things like, ‘I am 50% American Indian but no American Indian was reported in my genetics”

Was it done recently or a few years ago, because I thought this company had been banned from providing medical predictions and now only did ethnic origin testing which is used for family genealogy. There are huge implications for everyone if a company is allowed to make claims about one's risk of serious diseases, when no scientific research institutions have yet demonstrated reliable methods for that. If people are going to be unable to buy life insurance, for example, then parliaments in our countries will need to debate the ethics of allowing such products.
 
Yes, I have the C;T variant of this SNP. The Promethease report gives the following info:

rs7903146(C;T)
1.4x increased risk for diabetes (and perhaps colon cancer). Higher risk for Type 2 Diabetes and Gestational Diabetes. Reduced insulin secretion in the pancreas. This has been confirmed in most races.

It's not the only SNP involved though. My report came back with several others for Type 2.

Try not to get yourself too freaked out by the "bad gene" stuff. Genes are not destiny. So many other environmental factors are involved in whether genes are expressed.

The best thing you can do for yourself is eat a diet based around real food and avoiding sugar to give yourself a good chance of staying healthy. It's all any of us can do to avoid lifestyle diseases really

You can download your raw data from 23andme (and Ancesty.com etc) and then run it through various analytical/reporting programs online. I found it fascinating, but it's certainly not something I'd recommend to anyone who suffers from health anxiety
 
I suppose the easiest way to understand it is that you could have a dozen genes that are predictive but that doesn't mean that these genes will ever be 'triggered'.

There are no known definitive causes for T1 or T2 Diabetes. There are, however, an awful lot of opinions and a lot of people making money out of this so called data and no doubt causing a lot of health anxiety.

Quite right. I try to stay out of debates about wildly unsupported health claims that fleece the unsuspecting out of their money but this one has society-wide implications. Treating genes like destiny can have really negative implications for human rights and access to services across the lifespan.

I agree. I think it may be down to a cohort of genes plus their triggers. These triggers would have to be things that millions of people have in common so diet must be up there at the top of the list with toxins (as yet unidentified) a close second.
 
Very true in fairness. There are several SNPS for Diabetics good, medium and bad. Looks like if you get it you’re stuck with it
