Test strip limiting

Just got my repeat prescription and I noticed that the amount of blood testing strips I'm allowed has dropped from 150 (3 packs) to just 50.. meaning I can only test my bloods once a day!! I have been type one for over 30 years and in good health and intend to keep it that way, but not by just testing once a day I won't!! So I'm off to complain, but has anyone else been in this position?? Cheers.
 
Quite a few have I think. Its a bloody disgrace, just shows they nothing about Type 1.
 
I was refused more test strips on my repeat prescription, with the Drs surgery saying if I needed to test so much I needed to contact my diabetic clinic. At the time I was 7 months pregnant with blood sugars that we're all over the place and the diabetic center were certainly aware of my situation! I notified them and let them kick off in my behalf!
They must think we enjoy testing so much we just do it for fun!!!
 
My surgery allowed me 200 (which isn't enough for me at the mo), my understanding diabetic surgery nurse went on to the computer and upped it to 300.
To be honest there may be a lot of diabetics not testing and wasting them, I'm sure a call to the doc and they will increase them for you ??

If they're not using them, does that explain the surplus of test strips available on ebay?? I gather some people probably just sell them on to make an extra £15-20
 
I'm on 250 strips per prescription. My original prescriptions were for around weeks supply of everything. Rather than make an appointment with the doctor to discuss it, I wrote a note setting out what I would need on an average month (strips, needles, and so on) & pointed out it would save the surgery money & my self having to repeat the prescription weekly. The numbers were changed without any fuss.

Recently our surgery went over to paperless prescription, where you could order your repeat online & it would be passed on directly to the chemist. In the process the repeat numbers were all dropped back to weekly. On enquiring with the surgery, it turned out that the inputs were all done by the software contractor and the receptionist returned them back to previous.

We have been moved to GlucoRX meters which save money as the strips are cheaper which I don't have a problem with.

I can understand some people doing that but the majority of us are testing for the good of our health, not to make a few quid or for the fun of it... And if I find out its another cost cutting excersise I'll be well miffed!!
