Test Strips For Our Aussie Members

Kind of related to this post which is Australian-related... I haven't yet bought a blood glucose meter but I will this week.

Which is the best one to buy and where can I get one? I've seen that Chemist Warehouse has heaps. I'm also waiting for my NDSS form to be signed and submitted so I can get my strips cheaper (for 6 months at least, is that right?). Thanks for your help!

Quite often your local NDSS chemist will have meters on special - basically you pay for them up front (around $40), then they send in a form to Abbott or whichever meter manufacturer and eventually you'll receive a cheque back for the amount.

I've always found the Abbott Freestyle range very accurate, though I prefer the Accu-chek style of lancet - I love my Multiclix

Thank you! I'll wait for my NDSS registration to go through then hopefully this week

I got mt Accu-Check Performa four years ago on a cash back deal, then it was upgraded to the latest model at the time.

I now use Abbott Freestyle Freedom Lite meter which I got as a freebie from Abbott, as was the software to get the data from it.

Most major pharmacy's sell them for around $50.00 if I remember correctly, Accu-Chek have a cash back deal most of the time though. They also charge for their software which is expensive.

Strips for both of these meters I mentioned are $65.00 per 100 box here in Bundaberg, so sweat on the postie bringing your NDSS membership card as as pos.

Me too.

Can you still get the software for the freedom lite for free? What about the cable? Any hints on where to get this stuff on the cheap?

Accu-chek gave me a guide model for zip. Comes with Bluetooth. Still have to get strips via NDSS though. I don't usually record readings as I don't routinely test very often. Really only test when I will be eating something that I haven't measured before. The results go in the database.
