Just had results of my HbA1c. Did LCHF to get bids down from 26 to 8.1. Told by nurse testing not necessary. But it's the only way I know of keeping good control.
I recently changed from Metformin to Metformin SR due to IBS symptoms. Symptoms have gone but Metformin SR is not controlling my Blood Sugars.
Original dose was 2 Metformin 3 times per day. Now it is 2 Metformin twice a day. So no lunch time dose so readings are high after lunch (22). Nurse said nothing to worry about. But I do. Any advice would be most welcome. Mgt
The carb content of your diet is much more important than the metformin. Maybe you need to consider consuming less. You say you do LCHF, how many carbs per day do you aim for. Do you test before and after meals, Are you able to keep your 2 hours after meals count within 2 mmol of your pre meal levels?
The SR version of a drug has a coating that slows down the speed that the tablet dissolves at, i.e. a delayed action coating. Depends on manufacturer. Some use cellulose as a sponge to keep the drugs in the gut longer, but another may use polypropylene (plastic) to do same task. Another one uses shellac varnish as the coating. For me the shellac version did not dissolve at all, so my body did not benefit from the large dose I was on at all (2 gram a day). A different brand may help.
