Testosterone Therapy

I was exactly like you, and went to my Doctor. The feeling of being miserable and out of sorts with a lowering libido which was coincidental with the onset of my diabetes. He started me on Viagra but that did not help. He eventually referred me to the Andrology Clinic at the local hospital where they put me on Testosterone replacement. Magic! I felt happier, more energy, my BG reduced (slightly) and my wife started smiling too. On my follow up I said that I was feeling much better than I had for years and that I really did not realise how miserable I had been. The nurse said 'I bet you didn't realise how miserable you were probably making other people feel too', and how right he was. I feel ten years younger, so very good luck with your treatment. I hope you get as much benefit as me. Oh, and in my mind, there is definitely a link between diabetes and low testosterone.

My endo did a blood test, and confirmed low testosterone.

Had to do a PSA blood test and exam by urologist, before being prescribed Testosterone injection.

Done a world of good, feeling better, and younger

I'm a T2 diet controlled on amlodipine and levothyroxide. I also take cialis occasionally for ED. I've been taking Testogel (privately) for over a year. There is a link between low testosterone (T) and diabetes although what comes first I think is debatable. However, I had a very low libido and generally lack of self esteem etc so had myself tested and T was below normal but not that low. What constitutes 'low' or below 'normal' is another debatable subject. It was certainly not low enough for NHS treatment. For that you need it to be almost zero (much like the NHS attitude to hypothyroidism). Not feeling any better, a year or 2 later I had T tested again (at a different clinic) and it was a bit lower than before. I started the gel and things began to improve. My doctor said that for some patients the effect is not necessarilly immediate, it could take several months. I have PSA tests 2 or 3 times a year plus a consulataion as Testogel may have to be stopped if the results are out of the ordinary. I find it best to apply after a morning shower on the shoulders where it is said to be more effective (compared to the sides of the torso). It dries quickly and the initial strong smell vanishes in a few minutes. Of course it is important to avoid bodily contact (i.e. the area where you applied the gel) with your partner for a few hours at least . For that reason it is probably wise to shower again before any intimate contact.
I find I dont need to use the gel every single day, probably 4 or 5 times per week is enough. I have noticed it has the tendency to slightly increase confidence and assertion too. I cant say it has done much to improve HbA1c but I think I had that under reasonable contol already. There has not been much difference in body mass either but I'm not one to be down the gym every day.
