I'm going out to a Thai restaurant tomorrow evening and was wondering what food choices would be sensible. Obviously rice & noodles are out of the question but I know a lot of Thai food is very sweet (and delicious!) Any food recommendations for keeping the sugar intake low?
Not sure if i'm late. I go to Bangkok a lot previously for work. Thai cooking involves a lot of sugar thrown in, so the thing to do is to tell the restaurant when ordering not to add sugars even into the vegetables and soup.
Well the menu was a minefield of trying to think what would be ok. Obviously anything with the word 'sweet' was out of the question so settled for salt and pepper squid with mayonnaise and duck with a caramelised onion and cashew hot and sour sauce. Well the squid had been battered and fried so had to try and scrape that off and the sauce was fairly sweet. BS reading after 2 hours was 8 which is high for me but not too drastic I suppose. I guess Thai isn't the best choice for eating out!
yeah. 8 is not too bad in my books but they like sugar a lot!! Even in the salty dishes there are sugars thrown in. Another one of my favourites to give up after sushi rice.

I've posted about this problem too. I think just enjoy it, not too often, and bolus an extra amount (for me it would be 2 units). Or, safer, bolus what you think you need, then test at 1h and take some more if you see a spike. That way you avoid risk of going badly under.
For me, one nasty spike will only throw me off for one day. Now sustained spikes, that's another story !
