Hi everyone - has anyone come across this diet? and has anyone tried it? If so I would be interested to hear how you got on.

I am 71 and was diagnosed Type 2 in 2009. I take oral medication - metformin twice & glicalzide three times a day - but blood sugar levels seem to have generally increased over the last year as has weight gain

I started this diet on 12 June and have been keeping a daily diary of what I eat and take blood sugar reading before each meal. I started at around 95kg with an average sugar reading of 8.7 to 9.2. Now the maximum reading I had was 8.7 - but that was last night after a big meal of carbs & sugars with a group of friends, plus wine. This a.m the reading was down to 7, and have been achieving low levels of 5.2, 6.3 etc. I weighed myself this morning and I was a hefty 94.7kg but I had been 93kg the day before - again the price of having a hi carb & sugar meal.

On the whole I am happy with the effects of this diet, which is really not a "diet" but a healthier way of eating. I have given myself a month on this regim to assess the overall effects.

Should perhaps mention my HbA1c has averaged around 7.2% over the last 3yrs, but last blood test - 27-03-13 - it was back up to 8.2% where it started in 2011.

Hello there

I have had the book for months (bought it after watching the Horizon programme) and finally did my 1st fast yesterday. I actually found it quite easy, the only thing that happened was that I hypo'd as I had expected because I had no idea how many units of insulin to cut my night time levemir by.

I'm aiming to do it again tomorrow and should get a better picture of what to expect regarding levels, which were pretty stable all day.

It sounds like you are doing great with it, I have around a stone to lose and my current HBA1C is 7.5 so aiming for a 7 next time around!
