Bread to me is my kryptonite, it seems to be one of the only carbs I crave (naan is all time fave, but never been a success yet), and yet also the only carb I just can't get a handle on. I very rarely have it, and when I do it is often the burgen soya and linseed at a respectable 11g a slice.
Yet some days, like today my temptation gets the better of me and I grab the small ciabatta roll with my soup. 25g carbs per roll (according to packet! Yes its a small roll!), got it. 14g soup, got it. Pre bolus 20 mins (ON FIASP!) ready to take the bread on my way down, bolus for 55g for that little bit extra.
40 mins after my meal, rise spike from 5.4 to 11.1 in the space of 20 min. Ok now the guilt, the silly 'you do know this' thinking and my heavenly crusty bread is now 'uch was it worth it?!'. but how can 45g go to this level when accounted for and 20 mins pre-bolus should mean its working when I eat it with FIASP.
I am sure I have posted something previously about an oddity. Normally my carb ratios (apart from breakfast!) go to plan, as I generally limit them to below 50 most days its not alot to play with.
I have no clue what I could have done better to prepare, I had rice the other night, not an issue, fries too (come on it's christmas with tonnes of eating out, I can't always help it/ want to!) both of which were higher carbs and both didn't reach past 8.0.
Why is bread such a pain, it's not like I want to suddenly gorge on bread non stop, but a little now and then.... its my first post 10 spike this month (12 days in!) so very annoyed.
P.s at the time of starting to write this I was 11.1, maxed out at 12.3 with 6 units added during my original mix I am currently on 6.6 two hours later, I mean some would say thats a success! but it's taken 6U more just to get to 6 (anticipate it coming down further during the next hour mind.
Kinda just ranting to be honest.
