We can all relate to how you must feel at the moment, your right nothing is straight forward about diabetes, except the certainty that unless you try your best to control your blood sugars and weight, there is a chance that your condition can worsen and complications can occur.
That said, it is never to late to change. Ask your doctor to be refered to a dietician and discuss a diet plan for you that will aid weight lose. There is information on this forum about diets, reduced/low carbs, low-gi/gl, and discussions about portion control and exercise being of benefit in reducing blood glucose and weight lose. A lot of it is common sense though, try avoiding fast-foods/processed foods and try making meals healthy by making your own, using fresh ingredients. I have lost 18 pounds in the last 6 months by reducing carbs, portion size and eating low gi foods, on top of this I have cut back on my fat intake, and only eat cheese/bacon once a week.
Nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it!
