Why does lantus burn so much when you inject it?

For many of us it doesn't. Worth going back to your hcp and following up I think. It sounds like you may be allergic in some way.

I believe Lantus is slightly more acidic than other insulins and that is why some people find it burns on injecting, try injecting your insulin slowly and see if that makes a difference.

That's exactly what I was going to say @noblehead, probably 1 in ten levemir shots would sting like crazy, adn I read somewhere that it was acidic to make it crystallise and then perform the slow release.

It has a more acidic pH, precisely for that purpose. The op may be very sensitive to it I suppose. Can't say it is something I ever experienced.

Make sure that you don't use it straight from the fridge, cold lantus is supposed to sting more.
