The Ozempic Journey begins …

Thursday 8th May.

i collected my 0.25mg dose from the pharmacy (just under €120) and proceeded up to the small hospital in our town. I had an appointment at 10.00 to see the lovely Dr K (an internal medicine specialist) who has taken over my diabetes care.

My thyroid ultrasound scans were clear, and so we were able to proceed. She showed me what to do, and then injected me. I did not feel anything - a definite plus for me. Discussion of side effects (again) and I went off with a spring in my step.

Bathroom scales were the order of the day. My weight was down from 106kg to 94kg, mainly due to a sensible diet, and daily swimming in our pool, and the reduction of the corticosteroids dosage from every three days to every five days.

i plan to record the ups and downs of my journey every Thursday. Blood sugar tonight was 136. No discernible side effects.
 
Well done on your weight loss. Corticosteroids can impact blood sugar so the reduction in dose will help. Hopefully your Dr is good with your med reduction.
I find workouts very beneficial, and good for one's mental health. Swimming can be very relaxing too.

Well the side effects disappeared after three days.

i injected this morning and it was as easy as you like (especially for someone who hates needles as much as I do). I didn’t feel a thing.

i have decided to weigh myself once a week. This morning I have lost 2.3kg since last week’s injection.

My appetite is still reasonable but I need smaller portions.

Roll on next Thursday.
 
I’ve been on a good diet for some time, and was gradually losing weight but the blood sugar levels were difficult to control. All my diabetic medication was stopped after the near-fatal hypoglycaemic event. Metformin, Diamicron and Trajenta were all stopped for a while. My doctor then asked to to take Trajenta until I began the Ozempic injection.

Blood sugar much more in control and weight has fallen from 106kg to 91.8kg - a not inconsiderable fall.
 
not everyone finds it straightforward to follow a completely healthy diet, for a myriad of reasons that require no judgement from strangers

mounjaro/ozempic do not come without risks, so this is not an "easy" route, but it is one that is proven to help with treating diabetes and encouraging weight loss which comes with many other health benefits
 
I'm glad the side effects have settled down. I had a rough two weeks with nausea when I started and a bout of vomiting on the second day which I don't want to repeat any time soon.

I'm now on the 1mg dose. I still have a bit of nausea from time to time. I'm finding at the weirdest times I can't finish the last bites of something or I'll gag.

BS is coming down. Weight is slowly coming down. i get blood work done this week to check A1C and cholesterol levels.

Some exciting news from Cyprus this morning. I called in to see my Internal Medicine specialist - so she could check my progress. My last of the first 0.25mg doses of Ozempic is due tomorrow. My doctor thinks I am losing weight a little bit too rapidly, and has decided to keep me on the lowest dosage for the next month.

But she told me that the Cyprus government has decided to “sponsor” people who are benefiting (both diabetic and kidney patients). I fall into both categories so, from next month, my Ozempic prescriptions will be under GESY (the state health system) at no cost.

Excellent financial news but a distinct sign that preventative medicine is on the government’s agenda.
 
Great news! It's an expensive drug, so to have it covered is wonderful .
 
Thursday 19th June

Another Thursday, another injection. This was my seventh 0.25mg injection, one more 0.25mg and then onto 0.5mg.

This week’s loss was 1.7kg, which takes me down to 88kg. No more side effects and next week’s full blood test will reveal all.
 
Life got a bit busy late last week, and although I injected I did not weigh myself. Still on 0.25mg dose and weighed in today at 86.3kg - which is a weight loss of 20kg. Having to work hard to eat enough but managing - and still enjoying my food. Blood sugar is easily on target as well. I’m working hard on exercise (a couple of swims in the pool every day and some light weights), and I feel better than I have done for years. Side-effects are almost none.

I was getting unusual headaches, for me, but my specialist diagnosed low blood pressure and altered my blood pressure medication. Blood pressure back to 124/80 and no more headaches. Onwards and upwards.
 
Something of a surprise this week - after three months of 0.25mg doses, my doctor has decided I should move straight to 1.0mg. I suspect the recent blood tests I have had have informed that decision. It was slightly nerve wracking as the 1.0mg pen is bigger and chunkier. But no discomfort and I shall stay close to home over the next few days as a precaution.
 
I'm on my last two doses of 1mg. I see the Dr. week after next to discuss staying on 1mg or going up to two. I think I'm comfortable at 1mg.
 
I was wondering if anyone is doing in-between doses? I have called 1mg pen but only want to do a half dose. Is there a chart?
I have a wegovy chart but not sure it applies.

I'll be doing it under supervision.
 
Up and down the last few days with bouts of diarrhoea. I can’t decide whether this is a flare up of my microscopic colitis or a side effect of the Ozempic. In any event it’s all passed now. Weight dropped to 82.8kg, which feels controlled and reasonable. General health - I’ve never felt better for years.
