Dictators who positively go out of their way to force misery, tears and fears, upon their countryman's lives.
Politicians who, in dealing with dictators, have a wishbone where a backbone should be.
Flicking through an old 1954 school jotter
I came across this well remembered song.
Heck, it's frightening how time passes so quickly, isn't it.

Anybody else remember a song or poem from school days?

Trotting To The Fair.
(Alfred Perceval Graves)

Trottin' to the fair
Me and Molly Molony
Seated, I declare
On a single pony

How am I to know
That Molly's safe behind
With our heads in, oh
That awkward, awkward way inclined

By her gentle breathin'
Whispered past my ear
And her white arms wreathin'
Warm around me here

Thus on Dobbin's back
I discoursed the darling
Till upon our track
Leaped a mongrel snarling

"Ah" says Moll "I'm frightened
Frightened that the pony'll start"
And her pretty hands she tightened
Round my happy heart

Till I asked her: "May I
Steal a kiss or so?"
And my Molly's grey eye
Didn't answer no.

Our school hymn was Jerusalem which was sung regularly and needless to say and I loathed it at the time, but these days when I hear it sung it stirs something deep within me and I get quite emotional.
I think that's more to do with the fact that it's very 'British' and makes me feel quite patriotic though.
And now following your lead Willie I am trying to remember the words -

And did those feet in ancient times
Walk upon England's mountains green
And was the holy Lamb of God
On England's pleasant pastures seen
And did the countenance divine
Shine forth upon our clouded hills
And was Jerusalem builded here
Among those dark satanic mills

Bring me my bow of burning gold
Bring me my arrows of desire
Bring me my spear, oh clouds unfold
Bring me my chariots of fire
I will not cease from mental fight
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand
Til we have built Jerusalem
In England's green and pleasant land

And at my C of E primary school it seemed as if we sang All things bright and Beautiful at morning assembly EVERY day. Yawn!

Lovely memories though.
