Annoyed is a bit of an understatement. This is a bit of a vent and a need for some advice. Btw Ive been doing this for 39 years.

I was on Lantus and Novorapid bloods were high in the evening and morning. Changed to Levemir in November last year and things were great. There was a few hypos but nothing I couldn't handle. Got things right. Then a few weeks ago my blood started to creep up a bit which was fine there was a majority on target. The past few weeks Ive been less active due to exhaustion and over doing things when I have Fibromyalgia. The 5 days or so the bloods have gotten higher. If I eat a 30g bag of mini cheddars it would shoot my blood up by 9 mmol/l. I upped my Levemir by 2 units in the morning. Managed to get them down in the afternoon only for them to go high again later.

1135 9.2 12 Novorapid 50g carbs + 2 scrambled egg
1410 5.3 tea and mini cheddars
1612. 14.2 12 novorapid porridge 1/2 cup oats 1 cup semi skim milk 40g pineapple 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
2 home made choc chip & cranberry cookies. This would normally cover.
1955. 18.3. 8 novorapid. Cammomile tea 12g carb oat & seeds bar
10 Levemir
2120 11.8

0145. 6.2
0640. 7.2. 10 novorapid. porridge as above and coffee with a splash of milk.
0810. 12.9 18 levemir
0905. 13.5. 4 novorapid. I changed my vial from a completely new box
1035. 10.2

This time last month I was able to take a 9g carb protein bar about 0830 and my blood would still be about 6. I was also waking up with bloods of 4 in the morning but this seems to be a complete reversal.

Any ideas? Suggestions?

@Ermintrude75 don't you bolus for your mini cheddars? 30g carbs is too much for an unbolussed snack.

Changes to our control can happen for a variety of reasons. Age, changes in food habits, changes in exercise, viruses etc.

Sometimes there is no explanation and we just have to increase/decrease insulin as appropriate.

Hi there, do you mean a bag of mini cheddars weighing 30g or containing 30g of carbs? I think those mini bags have around 12 carbs in them? Are you aware of how many carbs are in each piece of food you eat, it can be hard to determine exactly how many in a homemade biscuit for example which makes it nigh on impossible to guess how much insulin is required.

Hi.

Yes the weight of the bag of cheddars is 30g so is 12/13g of carbs. I am aware of what is I. What I eat. There are web sites where it will calculate the nutritional values of a recipe.

Out of sheer frustration I changed the vial of Novorapid again but I took it from the other box with a different batch number and my numbers were spot on in the afternoon and I've spent the entire evening fighting to keep my bloods up.

Unfortunately. our bodies are not consistent.
I find days when my BG just seems to feel like it needs to do its own thing. This may go on for a week or so.
Like you, I change my insulins and change my pens and it does seem to make any difference. Then I up my insulin because I think I may be going down with something. This works for a few days and then, with no sign of the "something I was going down with", my BG plummets and I am back to normality.
I admire anyone who has a consistent BG all the time and lives what I would consider a "normal" life.

As frustrating as it is, I would continue doing as you are and reacting to your BG changes. Try not to get stressed by it (yeah right?). And test much much more than usual. If you can get one, a Libre may help.

@helensaramay consistent blood sugars are a dream of mine too. When I was a child I would go from one extreme to the other.

Changedmy insulin vial the other day and my bloods were great in the afternoon but I spent the evening fighting to keep my bloods up when training. Only to result in a high afterwards.

I've been in touch with my amazing DSN and we're looking into getting the libre and an insulin pump.

Do you wait until your bs has been lowered to say 6 before you eat? How much Novo do you need to lower them?
I find that if I eat when my bs are above 6 or 7 then bs will rise even if a correction dose is included.
I also find that bs are higher if I’m inactive and/or the weather’s cold.
