So my doctors keeps going on about me going on to a pump, I have had diabetes for 20 years now my diabetes is up and down I always seem to wake up with high sugar levels, I'm trying my best but find it really hard I've stop drinking ,don't smoke and eat a health diet! Just can't get the hba1c I want, so has anyone got the pump do they find it better? I just don't like the fort of having a machine on me 24/7 , but if it's better for me I spose anything is worth trying, do you think it's worth trying ?

If you are having trouble with your HBA1c and your basal rate, sounds like you are, I think it's worth giving the pump a go. It is a hassle in various ways - having something stuck to you all the time, having to initially do a lot of fiddling. But the studies show it will help you have more stable blood sugars. It is definitely an easier way to sort out your basal rate and so deal with morning highs. If they are offering it, I would try it. You get a trial period so if it does not work out for you, you've lost nothing.

I've been on a pump for two weeks now, so very new to it. The differences to my BG levels are fantastic. Adjustments still being made to get it better, but no more15 -25 readings and much less hypos too. I love it, wouldn't give it back for the world!

Before coming round to the idea, I thought the idea of having a tube connected to me 24/7 was horrible. Then I read more on peoples experiences of using a pump, as well as watching online videos people made on how their own pumps work etc. It took the mystery and fear out of it for me and convinced me to give it a try. No looking back now!

I say if they are offering, give it a go! Worst that can happen is that you don't like it and just go back to MDI again.
