soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
I've known for a while that an apple puts my Bg up . Now I've discovered, if I have one as part of my lunch, the effect isn't too bad.I keep my testing to a minimum, because i have to pay for he strips, but if I have the apple in an evening, My BG is above taget in the morning, when I test. Have it as lunch and I'm in the 4s, where I like to be in the morning. I don't want to go down the "take more medicine" road.
So It's all down to timing.
I have to see my DSN Feb 4th and I'll see if I can cadge some strips to do some timing tests.

hanadr - I hesitate to teach you to suck eggs, as you are so knowledgable about diabetes and diets, But - I think that what you said is a good example of how using knowledge of glycemic load, can allow you eat some things that would otherwise be off limits.

As part of a whole meal, the overall GL of the apple would have been lowered - particularly if you had some protein - which is highly probable. This would have meant that the carbs in the apple would be released more slowly than if the apple had been eaten in isolation.

Another way you can lower the GL of your apple, would be to incorporate it as part of a salad, with a vinaigrette dressing. Adding something acidic, like lemon juice or balsamic vinegar will lower the overall GL.

I totally agree - it is all about seeing your diet as a whole and not foods and food groups in isolation.

Absolutely Romola!

That's why I eat most of my fruit after a meal. The vinaigrette dressings are a excellent way of lowing the gi value of a meal. My wife and I buy balsamic vinegar (dark one) and make nice dressings from this, ideal for salads and pouring on fish or poultry, and good for you as it is low-fat too!

Yes, but the evening apple was with a meal too and shared with T1 husband.
