I've always been ok on the plane but have had more hypos in warmed weather, something to do with insulin acting faster when it's warm. Keep testing and keep a hypo treatment on you.

Same here. I always have to reduce my insulin for the first couple of days when we go somewhere hot. But after a couple of days it seems to sort itself out. Its always a bit of a challenge when it comes to eating different foods and a different lifestyle in general.
I have never had any problems going through airports with my pump though and don't mention it unless anyone asks me.

Cheers guys thanks for the advice

Keep your insulin and supplies in your hand luggage and if travelling with a partner split them up between you both in case one bag gets lost. Before travelling check with your destination if the accommodation has a fridge in the room or one you could hire to keep your insulin cool, also ask your gp/consultant for a letter to say that you have diabetes and it is treated by insulin to show at the airport if asked.

Just in case of emergency's take along a copy of your repeat prescription, if you need anything you can present this to a Dr or take it along to a pharmacy so that show what meds you take, Frio wallets are great for keeping insulin cool whilst travelling out and about during the day.

The heat can make you very sensitive to insulin and you'll more than likely find you'll need less, checking more often than normal in the first few days would be advisable until you know what effect it has, if travelling to a cold country then the opposite might apply.

Last of all enjoy the break and don't stress too much, a bit of pre-planning goes a long way and saves a lot of hassle when you get there.

CAN YOU HELP I AM WORRIED ABOUT THE FRIO WALLETS IF THEY ARE IN A NORMAL BAG IE RUCKSACK TO LET THE AIR CIRCULATE WILL THEY STILL WORK? AND DO THEY MELT AFTER A FEW HOURS? NEED TO KEEP INSULIN COLD FOR ABOUT 8 HOURS IN A HOT PLACE. THANKS NOT USED THEM YET ALWAYS TAKE A BIG COOL BOX BUT HAVE THE FRIO WALLETS AM JUST WORRIED ABOUT USING THEM.

I kept my insulin in a frio for two months while I was living in a tropical forest- if I soaked them for a good 10 minutes they stayed cool (they don't melt as they are little beads that just absorb water) for about two weeks even in heat. I should think your insulin would be more than fine for 8 hours. The backpack does reduce the air circulation a bit, but it doesn't really affect it staying cool too much.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. ITS EARLY DAYS FOR TRAVELLING WITH TYPE 1 AND I NEED TO GET THINGS RIGHT AND NOT SPEND THE WHOLE TRIP FROM UK TO HOLIDAY WORRYING ABOUT KEEPING THE INSULIN COLD UNTIL I GET TO A FRIDGE. - DONT WANT TO SPOIL EVERYONES HOLIDAY BY FRETTING.

No problem I totally understand! Honestly don't fret too much about it its nothing to worry about if you have your frio and everything in your hand luggage.
