Hello Everyone,

I have been very quiet on the forum because I must admit I have been having a bit of time of it wrapping my head around this diabetes thing since I was diagnosed on the 6th January 2015.

I am waiting to go to my first DESMOND session on the 18th and things are ticking along. I have been back and forth to the doctors a few times, had my metformin increased from 1000mg to 1500mg and doc has also changed me over onto the SR version. My tummy was not enjoying the bog standard metformin.

I have now got some numbers from my diagnosis blood tests. I have had two haemoglobin tests, the first reading 122 (yes I know! hair raising) and the second reading 90 (heading in the right direction)

My fasting blood glucose on diagnosis was 22 . I have managed to move that down to 10 - again, heading in the right direction. My doc is pleased with the overall progress and is very encouraging. One hears such terrible stories about GPs on the internet - I suggest everyone moves to my town and register with my doc. He is pretty open-minded about low carb - which is just as well as that is what I am doing. I am probably still eating some of the wrong stuff but that will come. I am sure.

My only problem is that I am feeling quite tired. I suppose it is going to take my body a while to recover from those outrageously high glucose levels. This evening I went out to my regular Tuesday session playing the fiddle in a morris band. I was absolutely WHACKED by about halfway through the session.

Does this happen much? I am trying to keep up with my exercise and keep an eye on the eating...there just seems to be so much to take on board. I said to my doctor that the amount of time that I spend in his surgery at the moment I may as well pitch a tent outside.

Anyone else have this experience of tiredness? Any suggestions?

when you cut carb energy, it's a good idea to replace it with fat energy, low carb and low fat won't be sustainable. it can take a couple of weeks for the body to keto adapt to burning fats and very hard exercise can take a month.
it’s a long page and a few good video’s

For me, the more carbs we eat the more carbs we want. they don’t give up easy

Hello Mike,

Thanks for the encouragement and there is progress, fasting level was 8 this morning - bit of an improvement from 22! Swimming at lunchtime today which I always enjoy.

Very important to take it easy during the change-over to whatever diet you choose. If you feel a bit weary try to go with it, because it's your body doing its best, so do your best for your body. Likewise if you feel a bit down, go with that and do something comfortable if you can.

Thanks for the advice DeeJay. Have to admit to a bit of weariness, but it's gradually getting better. Going to have a gentle swim at lunchtime and not do anything too taxing after that.

I am lchf too and feel tired actually sleepy more than tired but it's the way it is. I just have more fat to give energy.

When I did the Atkins diet I found I got a real boost from green tea with coconut oil stirred in. Interesting taste, but certainly picked me up. In fact...I may give that a try now!

atkins is a lchf type diet, only very low carb with the induction phase of 20g

yes, the induction phase was pretty gruesome. I am trying to keep to about 50g a day at the moment as I have quite a lot of weight to lose.

Thanks for replying
