I have been diagnosed type one for four months. I was misdiagnosed type two for two years so was very ill when put on insulin. I now have blood sugar readings between 7 and 9 before meals. I have had peaks of highs and lows but not too often.
I was wondering how long it takes to actually feel better. I am so tired all the time. I have a bit more energy than before insulin but not that much. I work full time shifts and manage those as I force myself to, I am aware that there are so many others who would take my place, but after that I am shattered. My children are finding it hard as they want to do things and I have no energy. My husband must be getting fed up with doing most of the housework too!
Is this how I will always feel?

No you shouldn't feel like this, you should go to your gp and discuss your symptoms and have the necessary checks carried out.
 
I wasn't sure. I had my first appointment with the consultant on Monday but he didn't seem to even listen to me. He just reeled off loads of basic questions. He did give me lots of blood tests to have done so I suppose I'll wait for those results. I have emailed the diabetic nurses today.
I am desperate to get myself back to 'normal'.

Just got my hba1c results. Down from 79.2 (9.4%) at diagnosis four months ago to 50.8 (6.8%).
I had a well done so I think that's good. All other tests okay but they are waiting for GAD result. I don't know what that is.
I am going to go to docs next week about tiredness. I think its linked to periods.

I had that, plus I would wake up for about an hour and a half most nights. for about the last 3 years. I thought it was stress of trying to sell our house.

Then about 3 months ago my DSN and I started changing my insulin - Lantus to Insulatard then back to Lantus. During the break from Lantus I slept really well, then when I went back on the Lantus from the first night I couldn't sleep, and I woke up for the 1 and half hours.

It was definitely the Lantus affecting me. I had been on it for about 10 years. I am now taking Insulatard and I sleep well again and I just feel so much better.

GAD65 is a test to see whether there is a specific antibody in your blood that is destroying your beta cells, I know this because I have them, hence my diagnosis of type 1.5, it will probably just be to see how quickly the disease is progressing if it is those antibodies that are causing your diabetes. Sorry to hear you're feeling so knackered, I was exactly the same and I agree with the others, discuss your symptoms to see if there is anything else they can do for you or there may be something else like anaemia or something which could be contributing.


Diagnosed with GD in 2010, Completely disappeared postpartum. Re-diagnosed December 2012 with type 1.5 diabetes, age 26, BMI 23 currently controlled by only Metformin, 500mg twice a day.
