Hi,
It struck me recently when my endiocryonologist ? stated that,Their is no limit to how much insulin you may need to
take to get the problem under control?

Well i am currently on 33u x 2 Levimir AND 22u x 2 Novorapid PER DAY. :crazy: :shock: :x
Still get double figure morning readings and Im reluctant to go much higher.

Having failed on Lantus / apidra Im not over confident that the above is the right answer?..

Another ,normal Doctor I mention this to was horrified and shrugged his shoulders.

Just curious, How many others out there are taking levels similair to me ...?

Well, an update and some information Ive gleaned from recent specialist visit.

Bodyweight Kilos x 1.5 is a rough guide to highish safe levels but this is not a maximum..
Even this was for a type one and I am type two.
More important appears that even though I am still only just below 9 for my Hba1c the news that I am
heading downwards slowly is more important.I also may never have a feeling of wellbeing ?
I can start to go hypo when getting readings around 6 at the moment.

Probably of more importance is the fact that analysis of long term Metformin usage has highlighted
the fact that it works differently to what was believed.Halleluja.
I know this is the wrong place (subject) to bury the topic but I was aware that too long a period on this
miracle tablet would have side effects when I started to react badly.
When asked after over 10 years oral meds to go over the 2000mg guideline my problems accelerated.
Im guessing now that my study of "insulin resistance" (the reason I need so much) is heavily linked to this.
I will not be surprised when a modified version of metformin is slipped out into the public.
Too late for me,just seems a bit similair to the Avandia debarcle at a smaller scale?..
 
You are not alone, I currently inject Insulatard 60 units am & 50 units pm and HumulinS 30 units three times a day minimum. If my sugars are particularly bad I do extra injections throughout the day. I also take 2000 mg of Metformin even so my most recent hb1ac was 100.

Im sure that stuff taken for too long was one of the reasons I became more insulin resistant and had poor results

Sadly, T2 is often progressive in that many diabetics will eventually need more medication and, eventually, insulin. Increased insulin resistance with time is consistent with that.
 
I've been in Metformin for almost 10 years and manage well [latest HbA1c last month 40/ 5.8%] 500mg 2 x a day and NO SIDE EFFECTS
However I do follow a VERY LOW CARB DIET.
Some people do use tons of insulin. that's why U500 is given, which is 500units per ml intead of the usual U100. I think all the U500 has to be imported so costs a lot.
Of course the less carbs eaten, the less insulin is needed. Going on to a high carb/high insulin regime is apt to lead to weight gain.
My T1 husband has reduced his insulin use by half from over 100 units per day, by cutting back on carbs.
His weight dropped initially too. Now it's stable.

Body weight kilos x 1.5, does that mean that at 72 kilos I should only be using 108 units a day?
