Totally different readings with Contour next and SD Codefree

When people who know nothing about the LCHF diet tell me I'm killing myself being on it. I was killing myself not being on it!
Which do I believe? Have tested the Codefree with control solution and it's reading ok. I don't have any testing solution for the Contour. But there is a big difference of up to 2.

Just tried the code free testing solution in the Contour and it reads 4.6 Will the solutions work for both machines?
 

I doubt the control solution is interchangeable between meters.

The Codefree is calibrated to convert the whole blood (from finger pricks) to a plasma reading (as though it had been taken from your arm). Check the manual for the Contour and see if it is the same. It will be buried somewhere in the technical specifications.

Plasma tests are approximately 12% higher than whole blood tests. Could that explain some of the differences?

Also, meters are only accurate to within plus or minus 15%.

To be honest, it is better to stick to one meter, keeping the other as a spare. Otherwise confusion sets in, as you have discovered. Unless you are on insulin or Gliclazide or similar it isn't vital. Just look for trends.
 

Thanks @Bluetit1802 I found a box of Contour testing strips I didn't realise I had (still in date) hence the double testing. Will stick to one machine only. Will look up Contour manual on line the morn.
 
Contour or Contour Next ?

I have both both Bayer and SD meters I generally use the Codefree and haven't used my either of my Bayer meters for a year. By strange co-incidence yesterday when packing for a trip I found I had one Contour Next strip left for the Bayer and used it checking my Contour Next USB against the SD Codefree using a real blood sample.

Bayer Contour Next USB 5.3
SD Codefree 5.2

In the past I have used SD control solution to test the SD Codefree against other various meters.
Tested against medium level solution Bayer Contor Next and Bayer Contour Next USB give results very close to the SD Codefree.

The Codefree and Contour Next series are the only meters of those I have tried that I trust.
